Not sure why everyone is bashing this guy. It's a review so people will put some abuse in a vehicle on a solid review of the vehicles capabilities. Yeah he was revving it more than he should of, but so what?

When reporters get their hands on a new bmw m3 they take them to the track and test it out. Chris Harris drifts the crap out of them. He is probably one of the best car journalists out there. I highly doubt he would as famous if he gently driven all the supercars he reviews. Since the 4runner is not suitable for the track the reviewer took it off roading and got carried away alittle bit.

It's all part of the review process.

I enjoyed the part where he got stuck in the icy water. Much better than your regular joe going down a fire road saying this is the best off road vehicle ever.

on top of which he gets out and gawks disbelievingly at the giant-ass shit-hole he just dug all by himself and all he can do is whinge that his "expensive Go-Pro" is in there somewhere.

and on top of that, he then has the stones to ask people to chip in to buy him a new one! :lol:

Yup. He should never have been out there alone, he should have taken a clue from the lack of tracks across an area that he knew collected deep water, when his fronts started to break through he should have immediately thrown it in reverse instead of hammering down, and once he got into the shit he should have hiked out and gotten a recovery.

He probably did no lasting damage, and it sounds like the area is pretty heavily trafficked anyway. But he's left a negative impression on probably almost everybody that drove or hiked or skied through there in the week after he did that and saw his muddy mess.

Douchenozzle doesn't even begin to adequately describe what a tool that fellow is.

meh, id have done the same thing. hes in an offroad park, that land is there for that use.
if that's in the bottom of a pond, there was zero damage. any marks he left will be gone in a few days at most.

Not for nothing but it was a mud hole that when the snow melts will be an even bigger mud hole. Hopefully, future hikers will also survive the trauma.

sorry, [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION] i don't mean to make you out to be this guy's public defender by any means. no one's really saying that he's irreparably damaged the trail, however—just that he behaved like a douche-nozzle. the hand-wringing over his lost Go-Pro just makes it all the more farcical. the point is that that kind of bad behavior can cast everybody in a poor light.

No need to apologize to me. I don’t remember seeing the plea for a new camera but just saw it in the comments. Meh. Looks like some of his friends are helping him there. To be honest when I first saw the video I really didn’t understand the outrage. OK, if he knew about the pond he should have went around but almost everybody I have been off pavement with has at one time or another needed to force their truck out of or over or through something. And just as honestly if I was stuck as he was I most likely have tried the exact same thing to get out. Obviously better to be with somebody else who could have tugged him out or if alone find a winch point but he was alone and without a winch.

All of us who love the outdoors understand and believe in tread lightly, no agreement there. But when push comes to shove nature is our bit@h and comes in second place to those on top of the food chain. I would never cut down a tree for the hell of it but I also don’t wake up at night crying about the trees who gave their lives to build my house. It’s all prospective. Alone and stuck in a deep mud hole during winter? Sorry nature, you lose – I win.

I dropped my front wheels into something similar once in a place probably far more remote. After a very brief attempt to get out it became clear I was only going to dig deeper. It was dusk so I decided to wait the situation out and let the ground firm up (winter). Ended up spending the night and backed out in the morning with little effort. Minimal drama and trail damage.

My beef is the guy is clueless, was out there for commercial gain and probably couldn't have cared less how it went down as long as it looked good on camera.
