Whats going on. looking to get into a 1997 4runner. this is at the top of the list but i dont know about the price. can anyone give me some input. i think its a pretty fair price, $7,500 for a 6cyl manual 4X4, with 150. its from cali so if its inland the rust shoudnt be a problem. altho the only draw back is that its the low of the base model. just about the basic of the basic. but it will run for ever. prob an easy 300K

You guys are crazy at $7,500. It's nice, but it's not a $7,500 truck. Get it for <$6,500 and it's an okay deal at best.

Don't see what, 3rd Gen 4Runners? They're everywhere. Pass on it. It's over priced.
not many 4x4 5 speeds. and i have been looking. only ones i see are chopped up or busted up. i agree its overpriced.

If it were me, at a dealer I'd start at $5,000. Take $100 bills if you can that makes em sweat. Flop those bills out on the desk and they'll start dealing. Might get it for 6ish, you never know!

Really? It's not a movie. You'd look like a douche flipping $100 bills. It's worth what it's worth, dealer is into it for what he's into it. It's a $6,200 ish truck. Tell him what it's worth, that's what you'll pay and if he doesn't take it, leave.

i bought my 1997 red with 234k 5-speed with factory e-locker clean inside and out for $5500 in the PNW where we pay about $2000 over everyone else for whatever reason. Oh I also don't have a single bit of rust on my truck either.

Wow - come on. There is nothing that amazing about that truck.
154k is not "low miles".
It isn't supercharged, it has no locker, no new suspension, nothing really that indicates any added value.
Edmunds claims that this is a 5,675 car at a dealer - in outstanding condition.
I would pay 7k for a 4runner with an elocker, TRD charger, and a low miles engine.
Yeah it's a nice looking truck - but you could literally buy TWO 4Runner for the asking price.
Also the "run forever!" comments are complete and utter bullshit. It MAY - or it may blow a head gasket and crack both heads 1000 miles from the dealer. It's a 150k 16 year old car. Don't expect it to last without continious and major investments.

I think the manual tranny has some value for the OP, I can understand that. On trucks this old, condition/care is more valuable than mods, and in a lot of cases a really slick stocker might be worth more than a modded rig to a lot of people. Also book values aren't super accurate on older vehicles a lot of times, studying the forums and classifieds is worth more than edmunds or kbbs opinion.

like i said, its a basic truck (very basic) but it does have the 5spd 4X4 on it which is hard to find. yes counting 100s does work but then again if you still have a stack of hundreds in one hand and already 6K layed out he knows u have more....
i think this would make a great starter for a wheeler rig is thats the plans because of the components on it but its also a basic as i have said before.
example, 4 years ago i paid 8K for my 2000 limited 5 spoke E-locker with 130K that was 3 hours south drive for me to get it.

I think you're crazy to even consider that one at that price. especially in Ca and at the dealer. If you've got 7-8K to spend, you can get a 99-00 and Yes you can find a 5spd. just takes a little more patience.
