This was on Craig's List today... Thinking about it...

"I have a 86-95 toyota 4runner / pickup complete front axle and a 8" toyota v6 rear 3rd member both with 4.56 gears.

Asking $350 for both."

I have changed my wheels to 33" already and this should make my gearing better. (have an auto as well) Correct?

What do you think a good price would be?

86-95 complete front axle? There's no such thing. If he means a front diff and axle studs, plus a rear third, his price is a little high. For here, anyway, YMMV.

Besides, with an auto and 33's you really should be running 4.88's, shouldn't you?

I was not sure, new to this and don't know for sure... Seen them and thought that it was a possible deal, so I thought I would check to see.

I was not too sure on the axel as well. That was a direct copy of the ad, I just did a copy/paste, so it as it was on CL.

Next question, what is your present ratio? The axle code is on the VIN plate on the drivers doorjamb. Typical format of Gxx4

G144 is what is on the plate.. so given this awesome info I now know that I have 4.875 Gears. So I guess it is not too much of a deal to change them with the new tires. They are just under 4" larger then the stock tires, that is not too much.

Just to be clear, 4" makes a considerable difference in overall gearing, especially with the relatively small, low-torque engines in these trucks. For example, going from a 31" tire to a 35" tire (a difference of 4", obviously) requires a change from 4.56 to 5.29 gears to keep the same overall gearing--that's a significant difference. With your proposed set-up, 4.88's should be considered minimum, with 5.29's even better (given the auto. tranny). You probably already got that from the others, but your wording here sounds a bit uncertain--just reiterating the point.

But yes it is always good to check, and when u pull or get the diff pulled always count the teeth to be sure....I've had someone tell me they had 4.56 gearing in a 94 and the vin had the correct gearing but when we pulled the diff it was changed by the previous owner....and I thank the internet for that website cause I wouldve bought it lol

I parted one out. Its had 4.56s. They are in my 87 now.
