Should I pull the trigger on this Trail Ed.?

Hey Everyone,
I've been checking out all the awesome posts and builds for everyone on their 5th gens for awhile now and I'm ready to buy. I wanted your opinion on the price of a certain Trail Edition that I'm looking to buy. Here are the stats:

2011 Trail Edition $32,000
25k Miles
It's clean and has aftermarket wheels and tires.
No lift, but it has sliders (not sure which one)
KDSS and Nav

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger this week, just wanted some other opinions on it from the experts!

Just curious, is $32k the asking price or the negotiated price? Sounds a little high for a 4 year old truck that was probably $37k new, but I know used trails are hard to come by. You can get a new SR5 for not much more, why not buy a new SR5 and then upgrade it as you get the funds? That way you get a new truck, you'll know exactly how it has been maintained, you'll get the standard warranty, and you get the benefit of a truck that doesn't depreciate much? Just an idea.
 
The price sounds about right--which is why we ended up buying a new TE. We figured that depreciation was so little on 4R's that we might as well buy new. To me, I'd rather pay a $5k premium for no miles and mint condition.
 
Thanks for the replies. 32k is the asking price, I still have to negotiate them down. Its a dealership so we'll see how it goes. I know I can get a 14 for a little more, but I just don't like the front end. The new gauges are nice though.
 
32K seems good for a TE w/KDSS and nav in my area. If I had found that when I was searching for my rig I'd have strongly considered jumping on it. That's what I initially wanted, a slightly used TE w/ KDSS and nav, I'm betting it has a sunroof too?

Unfortunately I held out as long as I could and all the ones similar to that we're around 35k. Given the small difference I paid I went with a new '14 base trail.

Kinda a toss up, I still wonder if the KDSS equipped rig would've been the way to go for me given since I only have mild mods in my future, but I love the '14 and having a brand new car.

Given the sliders; wheels, and tires, make sure it wasn't abused off road and all was installed correctly too.

Either option sounds good to me. I like my Trail, but a new SR5 is good too.

If you go with the previously owned one, ask the dealer to put it on a lift and let you walk under it. Check the skid plates for damage and look for other signs of off road wear.
 
I got mine about a month about ago for $24,650. Its a 2010 Salsa Red Metallic (I think thats the right name) and has KDSS, Nav, remote start, JBL, that sliding tray in back, and it is Toyota certified. It had 72k on the clock when I got it, so the miles were high. Clean carfax and inspection. I am happy with my price, and loving my 4Runner. Hope this helps. Good luck with yours!
 
I'm getting a 2012 TE w/ KDSS, Nav, wet okole covers, new tires, WeatherTech, and balance of 8yr/125k warranty on it for $31k, so you're in the ballpark...

29k miles on mine
 
With KDSS and NAV they retail for $39,700. Got my '12 TE with 30k on the clock for $32,000. I think its a decent price. I live in Idaho where 4x4's are in demand.
 
I ended up bringing home a 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS, sliding rear tray, Entune/Nav. for $39,999 OTD. They difference in price was only 4,500 between brand spanking new and the 2011 with 25k miles. Loving it so far.

Nice! Same thing happened to me. Have you played with the crawl control or terrain select?

hehe...I think I can relate to longeuayms; I wasn't sold on the front end either when I first saw the new 2014 Trail Editions, but the more time I spent looking at the new design, and test driving the truck, the more I got use to it and decided it would look downright mean with some mods...lol.


Congrats to OP on decision and enjoy your new Trail Edition! I am sure enjoying mine.

Not yet. I'm going to read up on them first and then play with the settings. I'm not sure that I'll be using those functions too often. I got the trail for the locking diff. everything else are just bonuses!

The Entune system is pretty sweet. I just wish I could add my own apps onto it. I have an app called Acar, which keeps track of all my car purchases and maintenance, fuel economy, and such. It would be nice to have that on the screen in the 4runner instead of just on my phone.

I hear you. I only wanted that locking rear diff too. I tried the crawl control yesterday over a curb and it was kinda hurky jerky. I dont doubt it works, but I feel like I could modulate the gas better than it did.

Good price! I have the same (minus the rear tray) in super white; I was just over $40K OTD. You're gunna Luv it! :)

Yea, the "ugly front end" is starting to grow on my. The updated interior and 0 miles pushed me past the front end issue. Plus it will look more aggressive when I mod it after my warranty runs out.
