It's actually a very long story - that I won't get into here. In short, parts made for Toyota by Toyota OE suppliers are made to Toyota specifications and sometimes using tooling owned by Toyota. That said, tooling owned by Toyota cannot be used for anything - or anybody - else.

On the plus side, buying parts from a Toyota OE supplier is generally better than buying from somebody who is not. That's because the Toyota OE suppliers know what's important to Toyota and can use that knowledge in building parts that they sell under their own branding. For instance, I have it on very good advice that the Denso alternators that you can buy on RockAuto and other places are not as good as the ones that are supplied to Toyota. Hmmm.

As for buying parts on Amazon or eBay that claim to be "OEM Toyota" this is still a somewhat risky bet. The number of counterfeit parts with convincing looking markings on them is getting to be a real problem. Just Google "counterfeit NGK spark plugs" to see what I mean.

BTW, I just bought a Bando 7PK2150 on amazon because I can see the "7PK2150" printed on the original belt. I'll compare it to the original belt very closely before I install it. I don't want to take any chances with this.

How was the comparison, did the belt from amazon was to quality?

The belt did arrive and looks good but I have not yet installed it or compared it side by side. I can report the new belt has "BANDO RIB ACE" printed on it and so far looks the same as the stock belt. Once I get it installed I will update this thread.

I got these from amazon, idlier pulleys and tensioner as well for $100 cad, everything looks good so far.

I finally got around to attempting the serpentine belt replacement with the Bando 2150. It did not go so well. I have confirmed the Bando 2150 is the exact same size as the stock belt, but the rib design is different.

The belt on the left is the stock belt which is a Toyota part number 99367-H2150 made by Mitsuboshi (part # 7PK2150) made in Indonesia.

leave original belt alone. it will not disintegrate at once. after Toyota numbering wears out, may be threads become visible, then start thinking replacing it. some rollers, idle one, may look loose, but its not. many falls for that trick dealership scaring tactic. unless it is really noisy and bearing fails

I went ahead and installed the Bando 7PK2150. I'll keep the old stock belt and monitor the Bando. Crossing my fingers!

The guy on YouTube I followed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4hcXCKsfnA stated his stock belt was a Bando. His 4Runner I think is newer than ours which is a 2018 TRDORP.

Does this mean the Mistubushi belts came on the older 5th gens? And at some point the supplier was changed to Bando? Would that change coincide with the change in Toyota part number? 99367-H2150 was superseded by 90916-A2015.

Damn. Already changed it. We have put 7 years and 100K miles on the stock belt. I was doing a complete 100k maintenance. I have always changed the serpentines every 100k on previously vehicles. But your right, I probably could have gone another 50k on it.

I’ve got 6 years and 54,000 miles on my $12 Amazon Bando replacement with no issues. I bought the 2150mm because that’s what came off.
