Show me your aux reverse lights

Those Rigid Ignites are nice, compact light, but Really? 144 Watts for LED backup lights?
Amp draw of 12 Amps x 12 Volts = 144 Watts

That’s a mistake in the listing , it should be 12 watts not 12 amp draw.
My rigid duallys are about 15 watts and they’re bigger and brighter than the Ignites

These arrived the other day, clear versions of the '03-'05 rear bumper reflectors

Tempted to take them apart and install an array of red, amber, and white LEDs so they do more than reverse light duty.

$58.88 shipped, took about 2 weeks to arrive from China https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-For-200...ash=item33da9b2278:g:QbwAAOSwj99aAkTg&vxp=mtr They come with LEDs pre-wired behind the reflector areas;I've only bench-tested them and didn't look too bright. There are holes to insert a bulb socket, haven't test-fitted yet but it looks like s 7440/7444 type.

I am going to hide them like some of the previous posts, just closer to the bumper. Probably weld a custom steel bracket to the frame to do it. My only question is this:

- I want them to come on when i place the car in reverse. that is easy
- I also want to be able to turn them on at will. Not exactly sure how to accomplish both of these at the same time. I will be doing some more digging on here....

I did this on the landcruiser and it involved using a simple diode from Radio Shack, back where they were still in business!

If you don't use a diode, then this will happen: you put transmission in reverse while backing up these lights come on, sweet.

When you're at camp, you flick the your installed reverse light switch on manually, these lights come on but the current will ALSO power up the reverse light circuit by going through the vehicle's OEM wiring. So, you're OEM reverse lights in the tail light will come on. This may not be a biggie but not very elegant.

I'm sure there are plenty of diagrams on the 'net for you to follow so I won't go into those details. Some folks accomplish this task by using a 12vdc relay as well but I think a diode is more elegant. The Rigid 20641 Flush mounted lights, for example, only consume 0.85amps so a relay isn't required IMHO. Be sure to install a dash switch that has an indicator light reminding you that your aux reverse lights are on. Otherwise, you maybe driving on the roads for hours with these lights on and confusing the motorists behind you!
