you can get 31m batteries with 48 month warranty (X2/Northstar for example)

(you can also get 31m batteries with the terminals in the correct location to not need to change connections, i just don't think you can with northstar or odyssey)

Does that tray drop right into the factory 5th gen holes\slots? Nice option if so, pretty cheap.

Yes, fits right into the holes in the battery tray. No mods needed to the 4th gen tray insert.

People are getting cracking even with the pelfreybilt cage

For the record, mine was an additional statement to yours, I wasn't speaking specifically about a Pelfrey built cage. Additional meaning anything that keeps the battery from moving, sorry I wasn't clear.

While the battery may not be causing these cracks entirely 80 lbs bouncing around in there sure isn't going to help the matter. :

My post above has a the ref card, Odyssey makes a non-marine with re-reversed poles. I didn't see a Northstar with the same config. They seem to have flipped all theirs too. I tried picking one up before I got what I did, they were 8 weeks out, my Diehard 31m had just died hard (Sears kicked tail they gave me a full refund), else I would have waited.

I do mostly city driving with several trips to the mountains and ranches around Texas every year for camping, mountain biking, and exploring. No real wheeling or rock crawling in my future. Hoping a heavier battery wouldn't get banged around too much.

My number one concern at this point is always-on 50qt ARB fridge power. Accessories will surely come later but the fridge is my main concern for the trips I do, so not sweating fuse boxes and whatnot for now.

So, to update the list, I know I "need":
-Odyssey 31M-PC2150 (duh)
-some type of battery cage
-either terminal-post adapters or terminal extenders
-some type of voltage booster

I will definitely consider the battery [MENTION=129105]Hamburgerpimp[/MENTION] recommended. Any part numbers on the battery you have and the 4th gen tray? That sure sounds easier but again, really looking to get as many hours out of this fridge as possible.

I'm curious why mounting an Odyssey 31M in the stock location would be any different than a Northstar 31M or a Diehard 31M?

There's ton of good info about changing the OEM battery out for something bigger and/or better. You shouldn't discount it just because of the color of the battery.......

After pouring through previous threads and getting turned around, I asked a question about the exact battery I ordered and got precisely the info I was looking for, and then some. What's the problem again?

Someone posted a little while back that Odyssey recently switched the polarity of the poles in the 31m-PC2150.

Mine has the positive pole in the same location as the stock battery, closest to the engine.

You can get a 31R-PC2150 but lose the extra threaded set of terminals. You will more that likely need to craft a bus bar to extend the length of the stock terminals. Since I suppose you are fabbing a bus bar anyway you could still get the 31M and put it in terminals forward.

I would add as long as it keeps the battery from moving during rough driving you should be good. I recall [MENTION=78273]Jeremy556[/MENTION] talking about his scenario running a 31 and his inner fender started cracking, EDIT: may or may not have been from the battery moving. IIRC he wasn't the only one to have this happen they we others too.

Now you got me thinking. The cracked fenders might be from the weight of the battery.
My Stock OEM Panasonic weighs 36-lbs.
I replaced it with a Odyssey 34R PC1500 it weighs 49.5-lbs. (The 31m PC2150 weighs 77.8-lbs. A difference of 28.3-lbs) That's 41.8-lbs over the OEM Panasonic in the same space.
That added weight might be enough to stress out the fender under extreme load conditions.

I also have a dual Battery set up with an Optima D34M on a shrockworks tray, it weighs 43.5-lbs
So with the two new batteries I have added 57-lbs to the front of my truck over the stock weight. (combined weight of new batteries 93-lbs minus stock battery of 36-lbs = 57-lbs).
Hopefully by distributing the weight of the two batteries over separate fenders Metal fatigue should not be a issue.

But with that added weight itsTime for new suspension. (and one mod leads to the another)
