Here's my boy, Mirko. He's 13 months old. He is super affectionate and follows me everywhere licking my hands wanting to play. He likes to bring the outdoors back inside with him, including plants, firewood, and large rocks

lol sorry to say but Looks like Rileys neck is at a 90 degree bend because of the cage size. perhaps get a bigger cage for the guy?

but i know my dog sleeps like that sometimes too... its not harmful to them i dont think..

Some questions for dog owners

Hey folks... Completely love this thread! So many great dogs here.

I'm very close to buying a 4Runner, in no small part because of my dogs. (Salespeople at dealers think I'm nuts.) I've had other smaller SUVs, but never seem to have enough room. Most new SUVs I've looked at have problems in the backseat -- when the seats are folded down flat, there are too many gaps/holes where a dog leg could slip in.

I LOVE the way the 4Runner backseats fold down, creating a pretty flat and end-to-end surface between the front seats and the cargo door. But I'm wondering about the cargo tray. Most models I've seen have it installed, and with the other configuration I want, seems hard to get a 4Runner without it. I don't mind the tray -- seems useful, but not something I'd otherwise seek out. But there's a large plastic flap attached to the back of it, that I guess is supposed to keep your groceries/cargo from sliding backwards when you pull the tray out. Not great for dogs looking to stretch out on a flat surface.

So my question is: Can you remove that piece? Anybody have any experience with larger dogs in the back of the 4Runner, with that piece in place?

Seems like in most of the pics here, folks have their dogs in the cargo area without the seats folded down.... Haven't seen many pics of recent 4Runners with the back seats folded down, and dogs lounging...

Yes you can remove the cargo stop! I did and the puppy likes it much better. :cheers:

I have tried laying the seats down so my dogs (2 chocolate labs) could lay down and relax in the back. But I have found that my dogs hate the material on the back of the seats. When they try to lay on the laid-down seats, they slide around a lot easier, making their "relaxing" area more of a slip-n-slide.

I know what you're thinking with the seats laid down to make the dogs more comfortable bit, but in the event of an accident they are far safer in the back with the rear seat folded up to form a barrier, so they don't go flying and get hurt, ejected from the vehicle, etc. Even better, in a kennel secured to the floor, but everything starts with baby steps, lol.

I thought I was the only person with a dog named Norman!

I had to put my Norm down about a year ago, he was a Red/White Siberian Husky who went to college with me. I still have his "sister" Lucy, a gray/white Husky and she misses him every day, I feel sorry for her. I'm digging for some pics now.

I've got a 4 year old HuskyX, her name is Ally and she's been the best friend one could ever hope for. She needs lots of activity, but that's been good for getting me off the couch too, lol.

This is the only pic I have of her at work, she's posing with her buddy Hurley the Beagle. I'll get some new ones once I have the Surf.

Thanks, we just got over a foot of snow here in KC and Lucy is having a blast. I've been giving her rawhide bones and she heads out and just tosses it around in the snow and has a blast.

Then, she'll get in her heated house, in the garage, and curls up on her nice insulated bed. She's an outside dog, but she lives a pretty darn good life.

The ONLY thing I would change about Huskies is their need to run. I had to drop 4 grand on a fence, then shortly after having it installed, I had to bury a treated 2x6 along the entire bottom to keep them from digging out.

Norm was just about 6 when he was finally able to hang out with me in the front yard before I would trust him off a leash. Lucy is now 10 years old and I am finally to the point where I can trust her as well. One thing with Lucy, she's fat and out of shape and if she took off, I would have no trouble catching her. I tried taking her for a short 3 mile run and I honestly thought I was going to have to carry her home. She made it less than a mile and was shot!!

Sweet as can be though!

I've gotta agree with you on that. The sister of the half husky I posted a picture of passed away in July '10, but she was definitely more husky than her sister. She wouldn't so much run away, but wander and be oblivious to us screaming her name!

The one is okay now, doesn't really seem to care run so she is okay off leash. The Shepherd though...no way. I think he'll be on a leash for a while, but e's only a little over a year old.

Would love to own a pure breed husky one day, but their exercise need would probably be a issue!

HA! Oh yeah, yelling their name does absolutely nothing. Norm, when I was in college, would take off in the back yard and hit a 6' high chain link fence on a dead sprint jump, hit the fence half way up and all in the same motion jump right over. It was quite a sight, for sure.

They are such sweet dogs, but they require A LOT of attention and do not do well alone. I feel really sorry for Lucy, she's now alone for the first time in her life, since Norm had to be put down. But, with two young kids and me and my wife both working full time, now is not a great time to get her a play mate.

Hopefully she isn't depressed or anything, I would imagine being around kids and everything like that, that it would help. We had to put the sister down also, really didn't go over well with the one we still have. Very sad, but then again no one is home much to entertain her. That's why we got the shepherd; he seems to have made her come around pretty well.

Huskies are definitely one of the best looking breeds out there!
