Ditch the KDSS is you want maximum wheel travel and body roll. KDSS is not compatible with any form of LT no matter what anyone tells you.

I respect your build, experience, and hours spent doing your own research so what do you have to say about Sonoran Steels setup? He doesn't call it lt because... it's not. But what are your thoughts?

I really regret buying a KDSS truck because I know I wan't LT. I let the dealer tell me they only sell KDSS. I'm not about to trade anytimes soon and as a it is my daily the KDSS is rather nice to have. I would love a setup that fully exploits system. It would be a perfect truck if the KDSS had manual sway disconnects.

I think the Sonoran Steel Pan Hard Bar may help some for a little additional travel. With the stock pan hard and LT set-up with the KDSS, the piston and panhard make contact and stop any additional down travel. By adding the Sonoran Steel pan hard, it appears to alleviate this condition, as that is where one of the offsets are located. The other issue with LT and KDSS is the KDSS system and components will only allow for so much down travel, part of which is burned up by lifting the vehicle. The piston only has so much travel, so when it is maxed, that is it. On the other side of the sway bar is a fixed link where the sway bar pivots and rotates at. As this point stays the same, again, it limits the amount of down travel as well as up travel.

I ran this one trail for the first time with the KDSS still connected and the truck was very unstable in this one uphill, off camber spot as the travel was maxed out, so I was getting wheel lift. The next time I ran this trail, I walked right up the same spot and felt way more stable and got through without issue due to the added wheel travel.

Don't get me wrong, the KDSS is awesome on the street, it really made the 4Runner handle a lot better even after the lift. It just is not compatible with the LT rear suspension set-up.

Good to see 285 70 17 BFG KO2s fit on factory OR wheels. Did you get the spacers to clear the suspension components, or just to achieve a wider track? Looking to do a similar lift (pro bilsteins + 1" dobinsons front, 2" dobinsons rear).

Actually, in that picture there, those are only 265's. This picture here is with the 285's. I actually had to take the spacers off to fit the 285's without rubbing. Even with the spacers off, no parts of the suspension are being touched.

Perfect, good to know! I like the way that the 265s look, but the 285s look better. At a 2" lift over stock, I think that 275s might be the best bet for our setup. Thanks for the info, you cleared up a bunch of stuff for us. While I'm all about trimming the various body bits, my other half isn't about it lol

Haha, definitely understandable. Good luck!

Angelo,

The stance on this is great!

How does it ride around town and on the highway?

It rides great. You can tell the springs are slightly stiffer which reduces nose dive and body roll but isn't harsh at all. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out especially having done the work myself. I don't need 2.5 resi shocks for what I do, so the Eibach kit with the 1.5" T13s worked out perfect for me.

Interesting. That basically confirms everything I thought.

Having brought my truck to the limits several times I can definitely feel the limitations of KDSS. I just don't know about running no sways on the street. Seems like I would fight to keep the truck in the lane. I really wish someone would come up with a disconnect.

I have been running with no sway bars for a few years now. It takes some getting used to, but I do not drive like a maniac. I drive to the mountains on a 2-lane windy highway a few time a month with no issues. Now they are selling Anti-Rock kits that will help. JSparky has installed one. I have one sitting in the garage waiting to install one day.
