If I were negotiating my 4Runner up a 2-foot high rock ledge, the lowest point of the bumper is still going to make contact no matter how high the outboard corners of the bumper.....
If you want to make it over that, you dont approach head on, you approach at an angle, which lets you get one tire up , which brings the middle up, then the other tire. If the bumper were low on the corners, you would not be able to do that and could not make it

If you like one that sticks out more, buy the ugly ARB!i like the way they brought the bumper all the way up on that one but i personally think it looks silly being so close to the grill. i like a bumper that sticks out a little bit. the rear bumper does look absolutely amazing though.
i might have to buy a 4runner instead of a Tacoma for my next vehicle just for the bumpers haha
Have you seen a bumper that uses the stock fogs? They look pretty bad (not good), the circular fog lights look much better and Shrockworks will put a turn signal in the side of the bumper, close to the foglights.cool. I like it. I agree on using the stock fogs and having an option for stock turn signals too, to keep it legal. not having to cut the stock bumper, that's a plus too.
I love my Shrock Sliders, and would be very comfortable buying from you guys again.
If you do that, then it kind of defeats one of the purposes of aftermarket bumpers, bigger tires. You're right about most of the bumpers being like this, but that is obviously what sells....Well .. I think I'm odd man out. I cannot grow to love ANY of the latest incarnations of off-road bumpers because the extreme upsweep to the bumper wings/outboard corners in front of the wheels looks like crap to my eye. Viewed square-on from the front, I think it gives the 4Runner a goofy smiley-face appearance. No offence to Shrockworks; all current bumpers look like this.
I understand the thinking that this uber-high clearance in front of the wheels greatly improves approach angle but I'll counter that by saying that you'll still bury the "snoot" long before you reach the clearance angle in front of each wheel since the approach angle is still limited by the middle section of the bumper (which is significantly lower). If I were negotiating my 4Runner up a 2-foot high rock ledge, the lowest point of the bumper is still going to make contact no matter how high the outboard corners of the bumper.
In any event, if I could find a bumper where the wings/outboard corners sit no higher than the center section of the bumper, I buy it in a heartbeat.
