Shrockworks Bumper - My Upgraded Turn Signals

I wrote up some of my thoughts in another thread on the Shrockworks front bumper, but forgot to mention the turn signals.

In a word.... they kind of suck in my opinion. The idea is there, but they could have been executed a bit differently. The Hella brand lights they use are quality parts, but one of mine has already broken its mounting tabs, and both have burned out bulbs.

I wanted LEDS.... plain and simple. I ended up with these guys:

Sealed, Miro-Flex, 2-1/2" Round, LED Side Marker, Clearance or ID Light, 4 Diode - Amber Optronics Trailer Lights MCL51AB

I bought both the recessed and flush mount grommets as well. The only mod that needs to be done to the bumper to fit these is the hole must be enlarged just a bit... other than they, just pop em in and wire em up. They are fully sealed and submersible, and LED's are far better at vibration resistance than standard filament bulbs. These things are bright too!!!!

The install is going down this evening!

Huge improvement. I ordered some other lights to try, they are pretty darned cheap so I figured why not!

Looks like it's either a 3" hole or a 2-25/32" hole depending on if you go with flush or recessed mount...check out the specs:

Looks great Shawn! Not sure why they don't put something like that in there straight from shrockworks if the Hella ones suck so much. I've read nothing but negative reviews on the Hella ones. BTW, not trying to be a smartass here, but where's the 4th LED on those new ones you installed? I only see 3 of them, lol.

The hole that comes in the Shrock bumper measures just under 2.5". The grommet for those particular lights requires a 2.75" hole so it took about 10 minutes with a die grinder and a carbide bit. Not hard but also not something everyone has the equipment for. I actually ordered 4 more different lights to play around with and figure out something a bit more "flush" than what I have now, and also easier to install. I have a great idea that I will be able to run with as soon as I get the new lights in. should be a simple upgrade for those interested with some waterjet cut trim rings I can provide you guys for cheap. Stay tuned!

You nailed it, there are only 3 LED's in there. They are pretty darn bright too, but the new ones I ordered are supposedly 2x as bright. The best thing is these little lights are very nicely made! Fully water sealed, dust sealed, and great vibration resistance. Also, they are cheap enough to where you can buy a couple extra just to keep in case one goes south.

I ran into some issues with the install with the bracketry that Shrockworks put on the backside of the bumper to hold those Hella Lights on there. I got around it but it was a pain. I am going to try and come up with a different solution so no modification needs to be done. I'll post my findings here:zoom:

I got in on the last group buy, so my SW bumper probably won't be here for another 2 months. I wonder if I could just contact SW and have them cut a 2.75" hole vs. the 2.5" hole they usually come with???

I increased the diameter of the holes by .25", leaving them at an even 2.75"

The new lights that I have coming are 2" OD and I'm going to try can cut a ring so they can be adapted to the bumper without any grinding at all. I just got ship notifications from both of the companies I ordered the lights from. 2 are flange mount and come with a flange built into the light and the others are the grommet style.

That would depend on if the LEDs you ordered from superbright have load resistors built into them, and I think you would possibly need resistors to fix the hyper blink, not relays

Yessir.... if your LED's are drawing less than the 25w that the OEM 1156 / 1157 bulbs do then you will need resistors.

I wired a pair of these guys in and they work great.

A little update on this thread:

I went through 6 different types of LED's, looking for the brightest, toughest, most visible, easiest to install and I think I found the ones. I ordered the wrong size (2") so the new 2.5" ones will be in on monday.
