congrats! i'm putting mine on next weekend.
It will make it easier if you don't have a full tank of gas.
arghhh I hate you and the pile of mods I'm going to have to look at in Ouray!... You better make it look AWESOME so the wife will let me up the play budget for mine!

Good advice. Do you have to loosen the gas tank for install? I may have to wait for next weekend since I just gassed her up. Cool, another lazy weekend. Maybe I'll tackle the CB install instead.

I'm working on it. Tell her you need about $5,000 and you will do all kinds of crazy chores and stuff. Make the transaction fun and offer to hang out at home while she gets her nails done or whatever. This stuff goes for miles and miles of mods, ask me how I know. Tell her after the $5k you won't ask for anything else for two years. With $5k you just about get it all done.

Does anyone know if "Front Bumper Skid" comes with the "Engine Skid" when ordering? I do not see a seperate order for it.
(Possibly because the front skid bolts on to the aftermarket bumper...hmmm...may have answered my own question.)
I have an email out just in case. If so the purchase price is a good deal for those two items, even after getting them powdercoated.
Wish I could buy the whole package but that is a chunk of money...especially with my Gobi inbound, soon to purchase suspension, and want for a pair of rock sliders.

I asked this question of Mark. The engine skid and the bumper skid attach to the same points. Included with the bumper, is an aluminum skid that connects the bumper to the engine skid. If you will search for Shrockworks bumper skids or go to the Shrockworks website you will see the aluminum piece that connects the engine skid to the bumper. Make sense?

I started last night for an hour or so on the gas tank skid and the engine skid. So far, I havent needed to drop the gas tank. You simply remove the stock gas skid. I had a heck of a time removing the bolt holding the inside part of the skid. Its tucked right under drive shaft, and I could barely get a socket in there.
I did have to push aside the XREAS canister though to get one of the stick nuts in. Hope that helps a little.

I am not sure I fully understand, I would like to get just the engine skid so I can have the access panel for changing the oil filter.
Can that be done or do I have to get the whole set? I do not want the bumper either, just easy access to the oil filter. Or am I wasting money and should just deal with removing the factory skid every oil change?
I do not really go off road all that often and when I do I am pretty careful what I drive over. Although I have not had a vehicle with IFS since my 88 S10 pick-up, I did bang up the skid plates on that a time or two.

I installed the SW skids today with the help of my brother. Took a couple hours, the gas tank skid is definitely the hardest part. I would definitely have an extra set of hands for this install, and a couple bottle jacks make it much easier the position the gas tank skid.
For whatever reason, the engine skid is not exactly like the one on the SW website and the front will not bolt the the SW bumper; there is about 1" of gap. I'm going to call SW tomorrow and see what is up.

I *think* they may have sent me an engine skid for a KDSS 4runner. My 4runner is a Trail, but does NOT have KDSS. I am not sure if they thought/assumed all trails had KDSS. I ordered over the phone and they did not ask about kdss, but I do think they asked if it was a trail.
My guess is they'll either send the right skid, or fab up a filler piece to bridge the gap and send some longer bolts to get it secured up. I'd prefer them to send the right skid so I can get back the little bit of ground clearance the other engine skid provides. They're good dudes, confident we'll get it figured out.

Engine Skid Installed
Here we go!! I got one installed today. Being an old man, and having no help I was able to get the engine skid installed. I figure every weekend I can get one done until my bumper arrives and then I can have the gas tank done when I have help with my bumper skid.

Does this SW front skid gain you any more clearance ove the stock TE skid? Thanks

This makes sense. KDSS has a different part number for the frame so the fit might be different. I'm pretty sure KDSS also adds a little more bulk around the front axle so your skid might be positioned a little lower to accomodate it or something.

Yeah...they asked me specifically if I had KDSS or not, and I said no, so they were sending me one from an SR5.
(Of coures that was Mar 16 and they tell me they won't be sent out until the 3rd week in May...:ybrick
