Sorry to hear about the troubles, I have been problem free. First, how many miles are on the truck? Second, I am curious about which dealer you went to.

I took a drive today to get some Christmas presents and turned the radio off on the highway to see if I could hear anything like a drone, and thankfully I couldn't (4wd v6). My old car, a '95 Civic EX developed a drone but I discovered that was a wheel bearing. I know a Civic is a completely different vehicle, but checking the wheel bearings is quick and may rule something out.

I am however disappointed in the way I hear Toyota handle some issues like this. Even though I've never had huge issues with my domestic truck or SUV's I must say they never dissed me on getting anything like that fixed.

Perhaps Toyota is not used to dealing with so many niggling problems. Another sign of growing pains. Problems are more of a way of life for American manufacturers.

Hey Rook, I got the truck at Prime Toyota in Saco. Right now its got 11,000 miles on it, and has made that noise ever sense I got it. The service manager over there has been okay to deal with, but I think he has no clue how to handle the problem.

I got under my 4 runner while it was running and had a friend rev it up while in drive and all brakes on,, I have seemed to isolate the sound to the exhaust system. Not sure what my next step is.

Thankfully my 4Runner has never made a noise like this. My wife's Honda Odyssey made exactly the noise you describe and only above +/-70 MPH from day one and it took us about 75,000 miles to figure it out. The dealer said they had another one before. They removed the windshield, and reset the glass in a bed of sealant and VOILA, quiet interstate cruising. It WAS great, lasted about 30,000 miles and jsut started doing it again. At least now we know what it is.

this noise is definetly not the windshield. If I wedge a large stick (something like a broom handle) up against the exhaust pipes, I can get it to stop resonating. Now i just need to figure out how to make it stop permanently

It may have something to do with the full time 4WD in the V-8 ?

I had a Dodge Durango full time 4WD and it had a bad vibe at around 70mph the dealer said was normal?

I have a good friend with a full time AWD BMW and the dealer has replaced allmost the total drive system to fix his drive vibe problem that developed on his 3 series Bimmer at around 20K. He says it's better but not gone.

I like my 4Runner still. No real problems other than the steering wheel vibration and being a little squirrly on the road, but its tight as a tick, no rattles. My wifes 06 Honda on the other hand is a rattle trap. Truly dissapointed in that, rattles everywhere.

The engineer that Toyota sent out to inspect my 4Runner said that its a harmonic vibration in the front differential and that they are working on a fix. Personally, I think that he was just saying that to get me out the door.

I think you might be correct about the guy trying to get you out the door. My vibration will occur even If I am not moving. If I am at a dead stop with the vehicle in drive I can feel and hear it. This Sunday I am going to pull off one of the two rubber exhaust hangers to see if I can get the noise to stop, I am going to try a systematic approach to it.

I sort of have a vibration also, two actually. Ones is my fault, I bent the muffler so it vibrates, and another is when I'm going over 70 on a curve and there is a distinct vibration mMmmMmmMmm. Like that. lol. I hope Toyota can come to it's senses.

I doubt that Toyota will work on it any time soon,, what are the specs on your vehicle? I have the V8 4wd, Just trying to get an informal pole going here.

vibrations

i dont know exactaly what vibrations this thread is mentioning but ever since i installed my volant cold air intake, under hard acceleration there is a buzzing vibration coming from the head liner or seatbelt adjustment.. is this the same thing that you guys experience

i have 17000 miles v8 4x4

I have no input on this situation. But I think its really funny that Toyota owners get pissed off because of rattles and whistles, while other walk out of the Ford dealerships feeling good that they only had to put $400 into their explorer with 16,00o miles on it...

I think its funny that you would make excuses for Toyota when you have no idea what were talking about. I think I spoke with you in the service department. I drove a Jeep liberty rental car the other day and it didn't have half the rattles my 4runner does. So please excuse me for wanting to get what I paid for.

Calm down friend, I wasn't trying to be a dick or say that you should excuse the problem. Maybe that Jeep didnt have any rattles but I guarantee it has two new transmissions in it by the time it has 80,000 miles on it. I was simply saying that toyota owners have become accustomed to only stopping in at the dealership for regular maintenance, that these things bother them.

I suppose what it boils down to is which vehicle would you rather have?
Vehicle A that rattles for 250,000 miles or:
Vehicle B that will only see 125,000 after its had a new transmission and two new fuel pumps.

And I actually did work at a Toyota dealership for 2 years and have a pretty good idea of why people are bringing their toyotas in for service, so maybe you should have beer or something because making personal attacks on the internet is pretty childish.

No sweat dude, I just got heated with the service guys a couple times over that vibration. It does have some other problems but the rattles were just icing on the cake. Don't get me wrong, that jeep was a piece of crap and I'd take my 4runner any day, it was just an observation.

Its cool, I'm really sorry that your having issues with your 4runner and with your service department. My mom has a 07 Sport V8 and she has not had any complaints yet. Of course even if it rattled she probably wouldn't even pay enough attention to notice it...
