One thing the dealer will most likely try to do is say "your 4Runner is only worth this at auction"... well, you're not selling it for what the dealer "thinks" they can get at auction... you're selling/trading it based upon its current value.

I would keep lots of documentation on the repairs (the estimate and final repair bill, before and after photos, insurance paperwork, and documentation of the shop that did the work [ie. the shop's professional workmanship], etc.). This will help you the most when you decide to trade it. But remember, like some others have said, the dealer will see this as a "weakness" in your half of the deal and will probably try to exploit it.

Well he did hit me first. And he offered. His point record is completely clean and his insurance company is arguably the best out there (USAA). There were a few factors in play. I highly doubt his insurance will take much of a hit. I seem to recall reading somewhere that in California there is a law keeping your insurance from raising after your first offense.

Let us know how much his insurance premiums go up after this claim... his premiums wont be cheap after an accident... he will pretty much be paying for your mistakes on the air bags over the next 3 years.

Thanks! Ill keep that in mind. Maybe it would be worth it to sell it to a private party if I ever go that route.

Anyone know if having rock sliders would have helped me avoid getting damage from the door hit?

This would be incident #1 (which did not cause the curtain airbags to deploy) that crunched my door.

I doubt having rock sliders would have helped the door. Your biggest dent is just below the door handle. the rock sliders would have protected the lower part of your door jam.
 
This is true, and in fact I had Traction Control disabled at the time which would suggest that maybe just maybe I was doing some "extreme offroading", as quoted in the manual' description of the old kill switch.

Oh, I'm sorry, my mistake. I didn't know there was a "Douchebag Durability Factor Index" for any public property that an idiot might decide to use as a 4X4 obstacle. It's a picnic table, people eat there, get some class.

I'm left wondering after reading this thread if incident #1 had a direct cause on incident #2? So many of us off road at any given time and do not experience this. I figured there was a newer updated algorithm as I noticed the option to turn them off disappeared.

Picnic table? Really?
 
I was on OP's side until I saw the picture of him "crawling" on a picnic table. I know it's cliche but people like OP are why we can't have nice things. Not only is OP immature enough to drive his truck up and onto a public use picnic table, but then he think's it's cool enough to post here as if it was some sort of accomplishment. Nice ...
