Silicone hose...

Hey guys just wondering if anybody is running silicon hose? I'm in the process of installing electric fans with a custom built over size aluminum radiator. The stock hoses wouldn't fit. I figured if I so going to buy new hoses and have to design them to fit I might as well go with silicone. Sorry, no pictures right now...I just got the radiator installed...next will be the fans and finally the hose.

They also make silicone hoses for all the vacuum lines...in different colors like blue, red, and of course black. Might do this too...get crazy and run all Red vacuum lines!! That would really stand out!

I got all my hoses and "T"clams from a site called "silicone intakes". Every reasonable prices. They been very easy to deal with...even on returns. My first order I screwed up and order the wrong size hoses...they gave me a refund, no questions asked! Anyway...here's a link to their site if anyone is interested.

I know others on here have gone through that website too. I think some states (calif for example) take issue with using silicone and they will look closely if you use any color other than black.

Post a pic when you get it all done!
 
Also, if you order the dress up kit for vacuum lines there is no need to get the large kit unless you want to do several vehicles. They sent A LOT of hose.

I would say play it safe and stick with black.
 
I have it and it's great! it's a little intimidating actually when you start replacing hoses there are so frickin many on this trucks!
 
Where did you get the custom Radiator from?

Silicone hoses are great if you have an oily leaky engine but kind of pointless on clean running gasoline motor but that is just my opinion.
 
I got the kit to address an issue, does anyone have a diagram of the hoses I can replace with it? Probably a very dumb question but I would hate to make a mistake.

Pick one line at a time, remove it, match the size, cut to fit, replace and repeat. There are lots of them, so don't get ahead of yourself.

Ha Ha...take a look at a Land Cruiser FJ60 sometime: about 40-45 feet of vacuum hose, due to heavy emissions control on a carbureted engine.

It's made by AFCO Racing Radiators. Another member on here from 4th gens had it built. He installed it in his V-8 4Runner...so on long slow trail rides he wouldn't have to worry about over heating out in the Hot west. He stated between the radiator, electric fans, over flow canister and what-not..IIRC he had a little over $1500-$1600 into it. Had it installed less than 6 months and had to sell his 4Runner, so he took it all out to sell. He had it adversived on here for 8+months for a 4th gen. I saw it and got the dimensions...measured everything and figured I could make it work. I got a hell of a deal on it!!

In high performance motors running hot we would go through hoses like crazy. After swapping silicone never had an issue.

It was so bad that at first we would only run new oem hoses and or grab them from the junk yards. Old used ones worked better than the parts store. The aftermarket replacements where crap. Silicone is always a good way to go.

TO THE OP GO BLACK. Anything else just looks funny.

I only have a couple a can find right now. The 4Runner is over at my buddy's shop...but here's what it looked like when I unpackaged it. Like I said, nice set up. From what he told me, he called them up and told what he wanted it and they built it for him.

Hello Sir, hey my Runner is over at our shop...I'll be glad to get you all these messurements...but it will be a couple days for Im able to get over there. Please be patient with me...and I'll get you hooked up.

Apologies for taken so long to get back with you. Been very hectic around here as of late. Anyway, I hope this helps. I wish I knew how to add more than one picture at a time, but that's all it will let me do with attachments...when I hit add pictures it ask for a web address, which I don't have.

Anyway...here are some additional messurements: the core is 2 1/2" thick and end tanks are 3"...then add the two e-fans with the alumuin shroud for a total width of 5 3/4".

This radiator is big enough to cool a Chevy big block!! I will easily be able to take my S/C Runner on any slow technical mountainous trail on the hottest day of the year with the A/C on max...and never break 190*.

If you need anything else...please feel free to ask. I'll be more than happy to help any way I can. And I promise I'll try and be much more timely in my responses.
