silly question: wiper blade horrible sound

I have to say that I feel dumb asking this question lol.

What wiper blade do you use? Do you treat the windshield with anything?

Yesterday it was rainning a little and the wiper blade was making horrible squeaking sound. If it was rainning a little heavier it won't be so bad, I guess it gets enough lubrication. It swipes the water away just fine but the squeaking sound wound suddenly intensify after a few sweeps with less water to swipe. So distracting!

My 4runner is 2004 SR5 btw. I searched the forum and it seems the 5th gen OEM wiper blade has a good reputation. Any idea about 4th gen?

Sometimes I use Rainx, and that seems to help them make less noise. But it doesn't last very long.

A Good Question...I have experimented with the Diamondite system, as seen on the My Classic Car series sold/demoed by Autogeek.com

Its a 2-step buffing(mild-resurfacing) and sealing system

Although it doenst make the windshield as clear as the demo shows....it does smooth it and silence the wipers, and makes pretty damm good visibility, easier to clean etc.

With our windshield angle that thing takes lots of direct hits!

Just buy some new wipers if they are older than about six months.

After the wiper change, push the arms down a bit. They should be parallel to the glass. The tension springs could be getting weak and need a bit of help.

Must be something odd withe the shape of our windshields - I can't find a wiper worth a damn. I've used $5 cheapies and $20 ones, and they all end up streaking and making noise. Never had this issue with any other vehicle.

You can always use some marine bearing grease under the blades. As the blade is in the rest position, run a good sized bead on the trailing edge, the wiper will then apply said grease on the down stroke for best results.

seriously, I like the uni-blade designs and when a new blade is no longer impressing you it might be time for new arms. Makes a huge difference.

My windshield is covered in tiny pits from small rocks. Not big enough to patch, and they are everywhere. I don't want to replace the windshield if it's not broken, but it would be nice to reduce glare when driving into the sun. Would the Diamondite system fix that? It seems to get mixed reviews on Autogeek. I'm thinking I am better off saving the $50 towards a new windshield.

I did my wife's windshield as an experiment, it was really bad and we did remove some of the hazing rainbow effect but the deeper chips ended up more visible as they were now filled with compound. Didnt bother me, but bothered her and we never did the other half of the windshield.

I dont have much polishing experience maybe I wasnt aggressive enough but definitely mixed results.

I just really wanted to try it, and hope I could fix something wrong and not admit that I'm old and hate driving at night !
