Silver middle-part on front & rear bumper.

Sorry guys, I'm a newbie with a newbie question. I just want to know why some 4th gen have their middle part of their bumper silver and some don't? (like the one on the top - T4R.ORG sign ).
Is this something painted or can be purchased? TIA!

The rear looks to be a piece that will easily slide into place, the front on the other hand looks to not be removable.

Let me know if you find any info.
 
The 2003/2004 4Runners with the monochrome cladding came with the silver bumper trim. The only exeption were the Dorado Gold, that color had color matched bumpers.

In 2005, only the Sport Editions get the silver bumper trim. The SR5 and Limited are painted to match the car.

I believe that is correct, if not please correct me.
 
I'd be interested to see if it's possible to buy that rear bumper cover from an 05 and put it on my 03. I'd rather have a matching all black bumper instead of having the silver middle section.
 
I'm going to guess it's probably easier/cheaper to just get the sections painted whichever way you want them.

I would swap with you if yours is Galactic Gray....
 
2003 4Runners I think

I think the Sport and Limiteds for 2003 were like that. Also I think just for 2005 they did away with the silver roof rack and running boards. It's too bad, I think the silver looks nicer.

2003: Only Limiteds had them in the beginning. After April 2003, SR5's and Sports also had them, excluding Dorado Gold.
2004: All 4Runners had them except for Dorado Gold.
2005: Only Sport Editions have them.
 
Just to illustrate the difference, here is a 2005 that is the same color and trim as ToolmanJohn's, but without the silver bumpers, silver roofracks, and silver running boards.

I just noticed your ol" mans yota. Beautiful ride. To bad you didn't get to him before he bought it, to tell him not to get that P.O.S. bumper portector. So, any ideas as to how you are going to fix yours

Umm the center sections were just painted silver, not actually chromed metal....As for making paint look like chrome, there is such a thing as "chrome paint," but I've never seen it not look stupid.

I know. At that time, I still had faith in the bumper. I ended up putting another one on my truck. I couldn't stand those holes in my bumper and I don't think anything would have covered them up. The dealer also gave me a great price for it and didn't charge labor.
 
No isht. Well good for you. Think about it, you bought two trucks from that guy.. So, when you say good price, i hope it was equivalent to a turkey sandwitch, but i am guessing no.

Time for a brush guard. I think a weston would look good on your truck.

All that trim that you think is Chrome is really Titanium. The reason I know this is I own a 2004 SE that is Titanium and the roof rack and center section and front bumper guard all match the rest of the vehicle. I like it, but I guess I should since I picked it out and bought it.
