Finally got around to doing this:

It made a noticeable difference in temp and sure smells a heck of a lot better than before. Highly recommended!

Rig is looking awesome with the lift and tires! Question for you, did you rub when you put the wheels on before you lifted it?

I desperately need new tires and pretty sure I'm going with a similar wheel/tire setup as you (same wheels, different tires). My 4runner isn't lifted yet but tires are first priority. Just want to make sure I can get by for a bit on the stock suspension.

Thanks!

Nope, no rub before the lift. Go for it!

So I did a thing.... and bought an E-locker setup! I've wanted one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. It has the 4.30's and my truck has 4.10's so I got the front diff to go along with it and will swap both. It included all the wiring so it should be pretty straightforward to swap it.

It was tested and actuated as normal, but had a little bit of surface rust so being the anal person I am, I decided to get it all off and repaint it before installing it.

I removed almost all of it with a grinder, but there were a few places that it wouldn't reach so I decided to give this stuff a try:

It did a pretty good job but took a few applications until I was satisfied with the outcome. Here is the woman (@SlvrSupraSub) helping with it.

Now on to paint. I cleaned it really well with some wax and grease remover and then sprayed a few coats of adhesion promoter before putting on a few coats of flat black. I thought it came out really well!

Out with the old...

We got the new one in last night but I haven't taken any pictures since it was dark. Just need to torque everything down and then start the wiring. Then I will bleed the brakes and give it a maiden voyage, then start on the front diff.

Nice !!
Looks as the Permatex worked good.
Something I noticed was you are still using the stock Pan hard bar mounting points. You using stock bar or SS1.2 adj bar.
The PCK (panhard correction kit) will make Runner handle like it should either way.

Thanks! Yeah I thought the Permatex really did a good job. I'm using the stock mounts with the SS1.2 bar - it's a beast of a bar! I'll have to check out the PCK!

I use Ospho for rust always good to know alternatives that work.

For sure SS's bar is stout, does center axle.
Do you notice when you hit seams in highway, bridge seams, rearend kind of scoots left and right?
If you do it's because bar is not level anymore, more lift more scoot.
I had SS1.2 with 8 wrap springs 100k+ mi I had the scoot problem. Have 3" OME on 01.
The PCK got rid of scoot on 96 the 01 never had it since I put it on at same time as lift.

I Remember your thread on lockers a while back, I think you made a good choice going OE for rear.
Since then I found a locker rear axle hub to hub low milage good price also.
Back then I mentioned Harrop E-lockers, one for the front arrives today.

I honestly haven't noticed any rear end movement but I'll pay more attention. It makes sense that a flatter geometry would help.

Yeah, I was really torn between the aftermarket options. I think an OE rear and a Harrop front would be a killer setup. I like OEM reliability and simplicity and am trying not to overcomplicate things like I normally do.

Can't wait to see what you think of it.

So I just had the maiden voyage with the new diff and everything seems good. I can tell the difference from going to the 4.10's to the 4.30's. It's not huge, but it's noticeable and feels great.

Next up, tackling the e-locker wiring!

Did you get full harness for locker?
If not, The 7 pin trailer plug wire is correct AWG, tough jacket under $2.00/ft
got mine at the local Camper Sales.

(Can't wait to see what you think of it.)

Yea I can't wait either, a wrench got thrown in the spokes at Drivetrain shop (only good one) local.
Their Toyota guy retired they don't want to guaranty gear setup any longer on Toyota's,
guess his replacement don't know his chit.

Yep, I got the full harness, switch, ECU, etc... should be everything I need. Fingers crossed.

You should send me that front Harrop and I'll let ECGS put it in mine. :trophy:

That sucks to hear about your issues. I'm sure you will find someone to take care of it for you.

Silver Supra, You got this factory harness is a piece of cake.
Yard I got my axle from wanted too much for it, not a pull a part place.
Land Cruiser switch, couple relays I'm good, more to it than that but simple.
My 01 has center diff lock switch where RRloc switch went.

I could ship the Harrop to ECGS for ya, Lol. Wait two months for another to come from Aus for a price.

I spoke to ECGS about work on both diffs install of Harrop 10-18.
They use Nitro gears I have Yukon gears presented a warranty problem, can respect that.
Way it's turned out, I build a diff holding fixture get a in/lb needle torque wrench
grab the dial indicators and calipers I have get my hands dirty.
Sometimes its easier to pay for a guaranty.

Finishing up the e-locker swap and tackled the from diff this weekend. Got the old not out and the new one in, got new boots on the drivers side CV and half way through the passenger side.

Should be all wrapped up next weekend. :bravo:
