Simplifying Life with a 2012 4runner Limited (Hopefully)

Time has come, Trading in the Fj Cruiser AND my beloved 01' CamaroSS (built) for a Gen5 Limited.
Have owned several 4runners, couple Fj's, Jeeps, etc.
The FJ is an all white TRD edition and the CamaroSS is one I built since 01' with about 600 hp.
The FJ needs tires and TRD brakes and the Camaro.....well like the song says, "Took you just a little too far". Not exactly a DD anymore so.
Really like the 4runners, have been jonesing for a sunroof and some creature comforts for awhile and this is the move long contemplated and just about trigger pulled.
Ordered a Black/Black to be re-directed to my buddy's dealership and I guess it is due into port in about a week.
Get a text message from my Wife this morning, "Can we keep the Camaro Please" I really needed that. I suppose some guys would be grateful for a wife that begged them to KEEP the Camaro but..... it has taken me this long to get my mind around it not being around.
I just think, the 4runner will afford a balance of fun/comfort/versatility/etc.
will it go low 11's at the track? No. But maybe those days are behind me now anyway.
Anyway, used to Mod a Jeep forum and Two(2) FJ forums.....If all goes well maybe can provide some info/service here comparing lifted Jeep Rubicons, Lifted FJ's and 4runners - here.

Welcome! Life needs change, but I'm not sure what kind of $$ you would get on the Camaro. If you're not going to get much out of it, why not keep it? I know how high-performance cars can be money-pits though. I'm assuming you're planning to mod the 4runner? There will likely be a point when you have to choose which vehicle to pour money into....

Thanks for the welcoming words. The 68 SS 396 and 73 z28 - SOLD.
I will find and post pics of the Rubicon and Fj Cruisers lifted/modded.
We shall see about the 4 runner.

??? There are whole sticky sections here on the forum here with pics(hundreds) of lifted and modded 4Runners from forum members and there is a whole FJ forum with pics of them lifted and modded over there.

I read that wrong and if you mean pics of your past rides ,we would love to see pics of them .I thought you just meant that you would find random pics of Rubicons and FJ's to post . Sorry for being rude and welcome to the forum!:hello:

I once drove from San Diego to Las Vegas with one tank of gas and had enough to drive around the city for the whole time I was there, before having to fill up and drive home. I know that's kinda off topic but it sort of isn't... I can imagine a 500+hp SS being a major gas hog.

Off topic here to and sorry to the OP, but I got the same too LV to SD with a drive down the gaslamp area before filling up. I did cruise down Cajon Pass though that was like :lookout:

Well, I suppose gas mileage is a concern always and especially these days.
In every case that I lifted and donned larger sneaks my gas mileage plummeted. FJ cruiser (2), Jeep Rubicon (2), - never paid anyone to have Lifts/suspensions/tummy tucks/ Bull-Bars/Lights/sliders/custom stereos etc.etc.
I always have turned the wrenches and dropped the stuff on my head.
Anyway, IF I was getting 19-20 mpg I usually dropped to 16.
Current Fj gets 21.4 mpg (Highway) 19.5 (mix) we shall see what the LE gets.
I admit that I am dubious that an all the time AWD gets the same as a part-time system but so the claim goes.
Perhaps gearing or tire size is the compensation.

Thinking about a 2012 or 2013 FJC with 6spd manual trans. Had a 1996 Tacoma 4x4 5spd that we really liked. The manual trans is so hard to find. What was your experience with the FJC. You havent got the 4Runner yet but if you have driven one how do they compare as they are on our short list as well.

Toyota does some very ingenious things to improve efficiency on the 5th gen 4Runner. Mine (SR5 with 42K) is stock except for slightly wider AT tires and I just got 22.9 mpg on a 1400 mile trip. One of the differences from a SR5/TE to an LE is tire and wheel width. The LE has a narrower tire/wheel combination and although I have not tested with a durometer or anything I would bet that the OEM tire compound is harder than the TE/SR5 tire. Get it and enjoy. Most important difference between 4Runner and competition is durability and reliability from Toyota. Is the 4Runner perfect? No but is probably the best out there for a 40K price point.
