Taking out a dual sub-box and downgrading to a single makes perfect sense. It's not a 'four-blocka' but it's good enough when you need some bass. And frees up cargo space. Just enough for your wheelchair, masturbation sessions, and tampon dispenser.
FWIW, I have a single Polk10 in a sealed box and it's perfect for me.

Not ever having subs is easier than taking them out after having them,the emptiness is deafining in the stereo system,I just lived 10 months without mine and at 43 years old I am currently putting them BACK IN,quick disc. wires so I can have space when i need it,they are addictive little buggars!To me its kinda like having a 10 inch lift kit in a 79 f350 then driving a honda prelude to work,ask me how I know!

On that note I was just throwing my high end 1997 premuim toyota paper cone speakers on garage floor when I got a wild hair to price the system with oem parts,get a load of these prices online, cd/cass top end toyota stereo circa 1997,head unit 1200.00,tweeter 60, frt door 188.00!! rear dr 110.00,factory amp,277.00,unreal high dollar crap!My window stckr has a 980.00 add on for this stereo,wow if I bought it new and saw what I got for that price I'd return it to toyota!P.S. will have a thread on my new carpet,seat covers,stereo install coming up,full interior gut goin on!!

Infinity basslink
I too used to love bass. But, I'm almost 30. So I put away my focal 11" and 1000w jl monoblock a couple years ago.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago, I missed bass. Searched Craigslist for a infinity basslink. Found one for 50 bucks. It's like a Bazooka tube, but doesn't suck. Sure it's only a ten with 200 watts behind it. But for around 200 retail it's hard to beat.
There's enough bass to fill out the sound. It doesn't handle the super low frequency stuff as well as I would like, but it hits really crisp and clean. I don't listen to as much hip hop and electronic music as I used to so I don't need as much low rumble.
Here's a pic I found online of a jeep with one but I have mine mounted in the same place. It doesn't stick out past the wheel well. Works great for me.

I have a small 10" Kenwood KSC-WD250. It has a remote for phase, frequency and level which I mounted below the fuel door release.
I wouldn't mind upgrading it with another powered sub that's more crisp and has a bit more punch. But I would still like one with controls so I can adjust it to the music.

I'm using a 5 channel Infinity Kappa amp that just fits under my drivers side seat. It puts out about 300W to the sub which is just enough. Sometimes I wish it had more but I didn't want to mess with doing two amps.
My Alpine head unit has a subwoofer Volume control built in which is nice, so you can always look into a different HU with more sub controls if you wanted too if you decide to upgrade. Or if you went with a standard sub and a sub amp, the sub amp will have those controls on it too.

I was just checking out this Rockford Fosgate 10". Looks like it has ample power and a remote and is compact.

I have no room to speak here. My dual kicker 12" competition take up half of the trunk and as high as the rear head rests.
I'm subscribing to this thread because I'm ready to downgrade and make some room. I'd rather listen to the music later in life (going deaf). Than full blast now.

Ha ha funny you mention the truck that has te holy grail of Dana 60s under its front end lol.
And I sympathize here as well. I use to have two hifonix Brutus subs w/ a 750w Titus amp. Fried the amp from ignorance ad have been trying to get use to no bass. But music is just bland without it honestly. Thing of going with a single 10 or 12" JL w6 but built into the utility compartment on the pass side. Just going to integrate it when I build my cargo box.
I current have my spare in my cargo area and it takes up A LOT of space.

The Fosgate is 300W RMS too, compare to the 100W RMS on the Kenwood. Should hit a little harder too, let us know how it sounds when you get it in!

Sounds great for a 10" sub. More powerful than I imagined. Very crisp, punchy and a lot more detailed than my old Kenwood. Overall much more musical.
It's more compact than my old Kenwood: which is sitting on the right.
I still have to straighten out the CanvasBack liner and tidy up.
I did have to use 8 gauge power cable and connect to the battery.
I also mounted an inline fuse holder to the cover on the fuse box.
I put the remote for the level control right where my old one was.
For most music I leave the level at 50%. Crank it a bit more and I get a lot more...LOL!!

I bought this setup to retain storage space. It rattles a little, but some sound-deadening fixed that. Came with a Rockford Type I 10" sub too for $250 shipped a couple years ago.

Awesome, looks good and a clean installation. Now when you want to feel 16 you can just turn the knob
