Since owning my 06 4Runner

Since owning my 06 4Runner, about 6 times in two years my engine has stalled when first starting up. I crank the starter it fires up for a second and then dies. It's never stalled once the engine has been running, but just after it has been cranked. It happened today and maybe the last time was a few months ago. It's so infrequent that I think it may be more of a glitch than an actual problem. My engine is a V8 and has 36,800 miles

Does it do that after you have left the key in the "on" position for over 30 seconds? I find that mine struggles to start once in awhile after I leave the key in that position. It must be a computer glitch or something.

Yes as a matter of fact I did!. At lunch I went and sat in my 4Runner to listen to the radio and I rolled down the windows and had left the key on for 10 minutes. Three hours later when I went to go home It stalled but then started up fine

Do you have one of those Priority Starts or Battery Savers.....Mine will do that after I have disconnected the battery to do some electrical work, so basically the computer resets and it will stall on me right after starting once and then be right back to normal....I agree with Mark86 must be a computer error...

Funny, I have the same thing happen to me with my 06. I never really noticed it happening until I had my Auto Starter installed, the Autostarters are designed to kill the engine if you step on the brake or do anything bfore turning the key to ON. If I accidently step on teh brake and the engine turns off, I usually have to start it 2 times as it will kill after the first start. I was worried they screwed up the wiring when it was installed, but the car always started after 1 or 2 times so I never really thought about it much after that.

But like you have had it happen before where I have had the key in the ON position, when trying to start it it may take upto 2 attempts for it to start. Couple of times with the radio turned up I didn't even notice until I put the car in drive and I didn't go anywhere that the car wasn't running.

I was chalking it upto the Viper remote starter I had installed, but it sounds like exactly what you have found. I have never had the quick start feature before like this Toyota where you can just flick the key so I still don't know what to think. And also like you it seems to happen like once or twice a month at the most, so I was just figuring it was a random glitch with a highly computerized car.

When I had my 2003 Sport, it did the same thing. That truck did not have a remote starter. My 2005 has a remote starter.
