Singed/burnt turn signal socket

Sorry to post such a mundane topic, but electrical problems completely dumbfound me. My 2007 limited, V8 has a burnt out front passenger side turn signal. I replaced the bulb, but it still does not work....I also noticed that a portion of the "socket" where the tiny orange bulb plugs in is a little burnt. The plastic socket is not deformed or melted, just a little singed. I put some dielectric grease on the bulb, still no workie. What should I do next? The socket does not look like its replaceable...?

The burn marks are evidence of a short circuit which likely blew a fuse or destroyed the socket completely. In this case it isn't that you are not making proper electrical contact, but that at some point something like water got into the socket and caused the short.


Check the fuse, then if after that it doesn't work, you will probably need to replace the socket assembly.

I'm also having the same issue with my 07 Limited V8. NONE of my signals OR hazards are working - did this happen to you?? The socket is burnt on mine as well, did you just buy another socket from the dealership and splice it in? Currently rolling with no turn signals or hazards in Houston - not good.

Have you checked fuses before you do that? Check fuses then use a multimeter to do a continuity test off both the fuse box, then socket wire then socket. That will help you barrow the issue. You clearly burnt something not, just a matter of where.

For the life of me I cant find the fuse for the turn signal!!! I checked the flasher module under the steering column and swapped that out with a good one but still nothing. Where on earth is the turn signal fuse located???

Honestly this seems to happen quite often on vehicles beginning to get some age to them….ive got a 04 and my driver side socket started to do the same thing…i would guess by the way mine was acting that there was water in there at one time or another….but anyways, the socket is toyota specific, it unplugs from the wiring, and from the bulb which is pretty slic, order up a new one from toyota im sure its not very expensive, i was able to determine which pin inside of mine was not making contact, so i simply bent it out a bit with a pick and stuffed some dielectric grease in there and havent had an issue for a few weeks now….

i need to replace both of mine. they are both visibly burnt inside the socket where the bulb goes and on the outside

But would one of these going bad cause all 4 turn signals plus the hazard switch to stop operating?

I am having the same problem with the singed socket. I am going to order this part today. However I am having a hell of a time getting the old one out. How did you go about pulling the old socket out of the piece attached to the wiring harness?

07+ does not look like sockets can be replaced, just the whole harness. ???
