Im installing an aftermarket headunit and sirius antenna this week. I dont really like the idea of the antenna wires being exposed on the roof of the rig. Have any of you put the antenna on the front dash? Will I get good enough reception this way? If not can some of you post pics of your antenna install on the roof? Ive seen pics of it installed in the front and dont really like that. If I run it out the back im afraid my roof racks will interfere with signal. If thats the only option how did you route the wire around the weather stripping on the back gate?

I have run my satellite radio antennas in both places and they work fine in either place. My runner has one just above the door stuck to the top, right now. The wire was run up the rubber door seal without issue.

I leave it on the dash as I ran several antennas which went bad and a pita to replace.

Have mine right in the front window dash, with no issues at all.
Did you put yours in the middle of the dash or in the corner?

I have mine on the dash as well (pretty much dead-center). Occasionally, when its raining, the wipers will cause just a slight bit of random interference.

Mine is the magnetic antena and is just above the third brake light on the roof. I ran the cable down the inside and down the trim on the passenger side and then behind the glove box out of the center console. Very clean and no issues after four years

Same here only I ran along the driver side , down the trim and up through the vents on the dash. Looks professional if you ask me

Pretty much all Satellite radio antennas are hermetically sealed and designed or exterior use. The just don't look that great stuck to the roof.
Center of the dash at the base of the windshield should be fine like others have said. It just needs an unobstructed view of the sky. No metal directly over it and it must lay flat.
Same deal for the GPS antenna although not all are sealed and thus not all can be outside the vehicle.

Mine is on the roof behind the 3rd brake light.
It sits so high you can't even see it so no unsightly issues.
I ran the wire through the hatch door jamb into the cab, then along the driver's side above the headliner (securing with tape and/or zip ties), then down the A pillar, across under the steering column and into the deck. I highly suggest using tape or zip ties because that wire can slip out of place and get pinched easily, then you will be installing another antenna. I know from experience.
