Over or under snugged, the dealer should be shot.
Seems slightly aggressive for the circumstances.

Inept huh? Nice way of grouping everyone under one shitty stereotype. How about this...I don't have the time to deal with doing yet another oil change on one of my 4 vehicles so my Toyota goes to the dealer? Inept you say? How about my time is worth more doing other shit than perhaps your time is worth? How's that feel? lollayball:
Techs usually do not change your oil. The low wage beginner does. I have a long time friend that is a Tech at a Toyota dealership. He says they do not take the bottom plug out because the o-ring is a pita. The just undo the cartridge and let the oil drain.
I don't think the pan will drain through the filter housing. Do they use a suction device? I occasionally drain mine cold and it takes a long time to run out (also have a fumoto in there constricting the flow some) so when I remove the filter, it's still about 10 minutes or so from finishing draining. I don't get any more oil out of the filter than it would hold though. I'm pretty sure it's also higher than the pan.
I didn't like the cartridge filter much initially, but I don't mind it now.
Hit the hate brake sir.
I believe "manofsteele" was talking about the most inept techs at the dealers get to do the oil changes . As many have said, the oil change techs are dropouts from FUBAR University at Jiffy Lube--so they get hired at dealerships as "oil change specialist".
As you said, your time is valuable so if the techs at your dealer do a good job, go for it! I wish I could find a Toyota service department in my area that I could depend on for some things I don't want to do.
Removed the skid plate, and look what I found. Looks like the O-ring was installed incorrectly, and the filter was torqued way past the point it's supposed to go. Glad I didn't lose all my oil on the highway and seize the engine!

As I see it I allow them to change it until I am given good reason not to. So far so good but I also see it as like this. If they eff it up then they make it right but in the end it's a risk for sure. They are just as prone to screw up warranty work (which we all make sure we get before out of warranty) so that too is a risk. I'm just not one of those guys to not trust someone before being given a reason not to trust them if that makes sense.
O-ring should be in the inner groove near the threads, should not visible. The fact that is visible means it was incorrectly installed and not torqued down, tabs should line up.
Good point. I wish I could have your trusting attitude, but after being burned a few times at my local dealers with messed up warranty work and other work, I am suspicious of them all. This really makes it difficult for me when I HAVE to use a dealer for work I can't do.
so 2012sr5 who did this?
Dealer or someplace like Jiffy Lube?
