Sleeping in a 4runner

I have, any help on what size air mattresses will fit? Will I need to take out the seat bottoms to make it fit (I am 6'2" tall)

I slept in mine before due to being a cheap skate and not wanting a hotel. Can only do it when the temp is not too warm.

I am 6'4", so I slept at a diagonal, fit not too bad for what I needed. Just tossed a large, folded comforter under and that was it. I made a curtain like thing to drape across to block the light from the front window and add privacy, my back tint is very dark.

My mistake was not having some white noise, I read on here where someone got a battery operated fan for that and add some circulation.

The fancy platform stuff for a bed comes in handy if you are carrying a lot of stuff, and cannot just toss it in the front seats.

I'm 5'8" tall. When I was camping in mid Aug, I took an inflatable backpacking thermarest, folded it in half, and laid it in the cargo area on the passenger side. I took another full length thermarest and put it across the folded thermarest and the passenger side rear seatback. I laid on that and pulled a blanket over myself. If the area was 2" longer, it would have been a bit more comfortable but I slept well in general. The biggest problem was not having the vehicle on flat ground the first night so I rested against the wheel well plastic.

I find sleeping in the back to be quite comfortable. I have the factory cargo tray so wirh that seats down it’s perfectlty flat. 2 amazon self inflating mats and the wife 5’2” and I 5’9” fit comfortably

Byer TriLite cot in back of 13 Tail edition

I picked up a byer of Maine TriLite cot. Fits perfectly in the back without remove rear seat bottoms. The legs of the cot are just high enough that the top clears the seat bottoms when folded up so you get a little extra length when laying down. The benefit of the cot is that you have some storage under and it’s easy getting on off. I’ve used it many times on multi day trips

Sleeping 4Runner

Going Sunday to Telluride for some camping and climbing. Used this set up several times and love it. The front section I only used when sleeping. I keep the back section in for storing items underneath.

Full (size) works perfectly. It's a hair too big side to side, but that works out okay because it totally fills the voids. Put it in, inflate it, kind of press it down so it doesn't "pop" up in the middle as it reaches full inflation. I actually really like sleeping on it in the back of the truck because you are nicely cocooned in there. If I use the air mattress on, say, the floor of my house, I am always rolling off the edge.

Intex brand from Target or WM... like $20. Ours lasted over 200 uses before developing a slow leak; I was okay with that. After that much use it is getting kind of nappy anyway so it needed to be replaced even without the leak.

You will need to remove the seat bottoms and then fill the footwells with something to take up the space, otherwise that end of the mattress (which is the end my head is at) will have no support under it. I use a 8 gallon Rubbermaid Action Packer, some guys use a case of beer or tool box or whatever gets you close.

Roll-a-cot

The Camp Time Roll a Cot fits perfectly. There's not much head room, but my big butt manages to get in and out without much issue. Because of the well for the tray, the front of the cot sit's a bit higher, but nothing bad. The cot also clears the seats, so those can stay in. I've had mine since the 90's and it's still going strong.

Don't laugh, but this is what I use....2 of them 52x34 side by side. Just about a perfect fit. Plenty of padding, good enough for my Beagles, good enough for me....

My only problem with sleeping in the 4r is how hot it gets inside.

I tried out an REI kingdom cot 3 in the store and it was very comfortable. I think it would fit in a 4runner if you moved the front seats forward and slept with your head toward the tailgate. There is at least a foot of overhang below the bottom legs so you can make use of the space behind the front seats without removing the back seats or filling the gap. The only issue might be the floor to ceiling height.

I went with a 4" thick piece of foam and had a fabric cover made for it. I was fortunate enough to find a local place to do it. If I were to do it again I'd probably go 6" thick, but overall it has been pretty good.

I'm 6'7" so I have to take the back seats out and slide the driver/passenger seats forward at night. I sleep with my head by the hatch and let my feet hang over behind the front seats.

I'm 6'0" and just have to angle myself a bit and I sleep very comfortably. Didn't air it all the way up in the pic, but should give a pretty good idea.
