Sliding Cargo Tray

Thanks to EVERYONE for their input so far. Looks like more folks like the sliding cargo tray than don't so far.

As far as my situation, the chips fell into place today. It turns out that the dealer "closet" to me had the best price on the 2014 (without the sliding cargo tray) but tried to bend me over on my 2011 Limited trade in. I told them no thanks. So that left me with the 2 original dealers I have been dealing with the past few days. Both identical cars but one has the SCT and the other does not. After some serious back and forth with each, it appears the dealer with the SCT-equipped 4Runner went the furthest under invoice and gave me the most for my trade. Therefore, it looks like I'll be getting the sliding cargo tray. Other than hauling some luggage/crates around a few times a year, I really don't put anything in the back of my SUV's so hopefully it works out.

Plan on making the looooong haul to do the swap Fri/Sat. Pics to follow when I get back.

I'd also like to add that by going OUTSIDE the Gulf States Toyota region, I am picking up a KDSS-equipped rig for the same price I was given for one without it here closer to home. The local dealers had the gall to tell me I was being unrealistic when I told them their prices were way out of line. Idiots!

I added a Swag Off Road carrier for the 24gal action packer bin, and also added a 50qt ARB fridge in the back. The pro who did the install said he was really shocked at how flimsy the sliding cargo tray on the 4runner was. He described it as "driling into styrofoam with a few pieces of plastic for cross-bar support"

The structure of the tray is why I have not mounted my fridge yet. I am still studying it. Not sure if I will put down a base plate to attach to first.

I went with Toyota of Dallas for most of the gear and then went to some local 4x4 hotshots in Washington State for the work. Auburn Off-Road. No complaints all around. Guys at SWAG set a new world record on their shipping speed also. I ordered it at night and somehow it arrived the next day. I was amazed.

When I first started looking, I spoke with TOB and got some quotes about a grand under MSRP. Then I talked to the internet manager at Alamo who, after telling them their price for a Trail Premium WITHOUT KDSS was high, proceeded to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. I then was in touch with Toyota of Ft. Worth and they were waaaaay more realistic on pricing. Price was around invoice and they offered a fair amount on my trade. I took this lower price and went back to TOB who gave me the typical song and dance that they would match the Ft. Worth price. I thought about it for a few days and the car sold. I didn't really mind as the more I looked around outside of the Gulf States Region, the more I realized there were way better deals to be had.

I will say this, Toyota of Ft. Worth were straight shooters. The sales manager, after knowing I wanted a KDSS optioned car that he couldn't get, took the time to help me find other dealers that had them and advised me to call him if I needed any help when dealing with other dealers.

I've bought a lot of cars over the years and I've come to the realization that buying cars in Texas always cost more than going across the State line. I haven't bought a car in TX in years.

I bought my TE used on Ebay. But I bought my Tacoma, FJ and a Corolla with Javier at NP. They kill TOB. Javier just found an LE for my boss as it came out of the Port in Houston. NP was lowest of 3 bidders. If that helps. He said he can usually get anything in a week.

I just realized that if I do an overlay over my tray then I can extend my tray all the way to the back of the seat. Woohoo.

Congrats on the new 4r, I too ended up going outside of Gulf States Toyota to get my TE and saved several thousands of dollars in the process.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned using their tray, fully opened, to extend the fulcrum spot if-you-will for better support when moving large and long cargo such as dressers or couches etc. I keep a bunch of fishing gear, jumpstarter, compressor and other things in my truck on a regular basis so unless I'm moving something my tray doesn't get used too often. That being said though the times I do use mine it's been very useful and sits just right for tailgating as well!

While I opted to vote avoid it, I can't say I hate it. I would have rather had a neutral position on the vote, so I chose no. It's not too bad. Mine makes no noise, I just hate how stuff falls behind it. It could have better, and more anchor points, but I've adapted it pretty well to my needs.

I'm surprised some of you say the tray is loud. I'm obsessive about rattles but haven't noticed any from the tray. Always find it becomes the center of the camping trip with party mode on and the tray serving as the table for everyone's food/drink, or else a seat.

I assume that without the cargo tray that its NOT completely flat when the seat are down? I like to sleep in the back sometimes when camping. Considering the 14 trail prem model.

I love the slide out tray on my '14. It helps protect the rear bumper when loading gear, and I love being able to reach the stuff near the seat backs. The storage compartment underneath easily fits my GoalZero Solar Panel (used to power a thermal electric cooler when desert camping in the heat) as well as an umbrella. I also like the long skinny hidden compartment just in front of it... great for keeping jumper cables.

I also find that it's great to pull out the tray and have a seat while listening to some music.

I never thought about how big that space is. That's a good plan.
I also love it for a seat, it keeps things clean when your bumper is filthy, and it lets you roll in heavy things pretty easy especially if you are offloading from a truck or dock.

It's great for loading large/heavy items and makes a good tailgate/camping table. Also, it makes the whole cargo area flat and has a little nook under the back of it to store a two-piece fishing rod. I've enjoyed mine.

I had it in my 2010TE and it's the one option I can't stand (It's a love/hate thing). It really doesn't extend far enough to be useful to me, and it takes up precious cargo space...you lose about 4-5" of height. ymmv.

I have had one without and one with a cargo tray. I still load the same amount of stuff and it still fits a 29'er mountain bike with XL frame. I was concerned at first about the reduced cargo capacity but then common sense took over and I calculated the reduced volume. It's not much.

I had it in my 2010TE and it's the one option I can't stand (It's a love/hate thing). It really doesn't extend far enough to be useful to me, and it takes up precious cargo space...you lose about 4-5" of height. ymmv.

After market sliding cargo tray

I have a 2015 Trail Premium with KDSS and no cargo tray! I want the cargo tray but can't seem to find one.

I ordered my TRD Pro with the sliding cargo tray but it did not come with it. I was pissed! I went up the ranks to corporate and they couldn't do a thing for me. There is not a way to order the OEM sliding cargo tray. It does not exist on its own.
That being said....
I found a really slick after market sliding cargo tray that won't cost you huge money. The great thing about this one is that it can be removed in minutes if you need the extra space.
