My sliding rear window does not work and wondering how to troubleshoot it. Has anybody had any problems with it?

Most common area is the wiring loom that goes between the body and the rear hatch. Years of opening/closing the rear hatch bends and eventually breaks the wires. Check in that loom first for broken/damaged wires.

It’s also dependent on the master (driver side) window switch, being connected. It won’t work without that plugged in. Window lock will do it too, though I doubt that’s it.

i've been having this issue too where my window switch will let it go UP, but hte window refuses to come down. motor is good, loom at the back hatch up toward the top is good, swapped window switches.....my driver door switches all work/connected...
I have to assume for ME, and maybe you...it's clearly a wiring issue, but the only issue is that there is A LOT of wiring where there could be a short.
I really miss having my back window down too! :tsk:

Thank you! I have had some problems with the third brake light which was wiring disconnect, and I checked things throughly putting it back together. That was two years ago. It worked until this week. So I guess that I am going to need to disassemble it again.

Just solved my rear window issues a couple weeks ago. I cut open the rear loom in the trunk hatch and bam!! Busted wire that I just added a longer wire to and re-taped it up. No issues after this.

jeesh, I wish mine had such an obvious wiring issue. been pouring through all the wiring I can find and I'm just not seeing any obvious cuts or exposed wiring. :ybrick:

the switch let's it go up, but when I hit the switch to "down" the motor doesn't click and nothing happens. I swapped switches, checked wiring connected to the switch and checked wiring at the loom up top by the rear hatch.
could the motor be bad while still allowing it to go up??? Most prices I've seen are insane for a rear window motor so I've backed off with trying that troubleshooting

Does it work with the key in the rear window? I don't think your motor is bad. I think a wire or a control has issue. Mostly if the motor bad nothing will work and move at all.

Nope, key doesn't let it go down. Yea that's my concern is more the wiring, I don't mind replacing like a module, just terrified that it may be an issue somewhere in the miles of wiring lol - my sunroof has that cement grease issue too, but out of the two, I miss my rear window a million times more then my sunroof =P
If the rear wiper doesn’t show that it’s in the park position that can inhibit the rear window going down.

Well I swear I tried the key, but the windows been like this for several months and clearly I did not....YES, the window will go both Up AND Down when using the key in the rear hatch. Also yea the rear wiper works perfectly fine, it rests in park and will even clean my window the 1 or 2 times I tried it (mostly for troubleshooting purposes lol)
So now that's got me pretty convinced there's clearly a wiring/signal issue between the circuits that control the down button when using the switch up front. Correct?
Thanks for pointing the key idea out, can't believe I didn't try that....least I can cruise locally with it down and enjoy the coastal breeze ha ha
The switch and wiring would be what I check next.

I have a parts rear hatch that I slice wires off to patch the broken wires in the loom. If you want a section let me know.. We work out a deal for a section of wire. ( most people don't care and just patch.. I take several inches out and solder seal both side past the bad spots so it never happens again for at least 20 Plus years..

yea I'll get my tester out and start probing around on one of my days off, see if I can find the culprit. I love our back windows so it'd be great to have the switch working again lol
I roll that sucker down on the freeway but occasionally you get those weird glares off vehicles and have to roll it up a foot to utilize the window tint =P

Its most likely the wiring as 90% of the hatch and driver side door circuit issues are the wiring broken and shorting . It can fool you as the wire can be broken and the insulation still intact. If the key works. It's not the control module. Feel the wires as well.

How many switches go bad I wonder? As I haven't seen one of the back windows switches bad yet but definitely possible.

Yea I would definitely put my money on a wire or wires rather then the switch....we even swapped like 3 switches at my buddies property because he has several 3rd gens he parts and sells whole...none of them made a difference lol
