SLIME tire sealant?

What is the consensus (group thought) on using Slime in the tires as prevention? I bought a bottle for my lawn tractor and it says its effective for two years and gives the recommended amount for different applications. Would it throw off the tire balance?

Your tire installer will hate you!!! Also when they install a new tire that stuff will be all over your rim and they usually dont clean it. Best prevention is a spare.

All that stuff is good for is making a gigantic mess inside your tire and all over your rim, I wouldn't put that stuff in for anything.

If you want a preventative measure against small holes carry a patch kit with you.

This is in regards to my daughters truck who goes to school two states away. Just a father trying to be one step ahead of the inevitable.

The tires are geolanders with only 30k miles on them.

And they will unlock her car when she locks her keys in it, along with giving her a gallon of gas when she runs out of it, and jump the battery when she leaves the lights on all night!

Green slime is great for the small things like lawn mowers and other light farm equipment, but just a sales gimmick for cars. I know of some tire shops that when they unscrew your valve stem and green stuff come out they screw it back in and send you on your way to a different shop, they just hate the stuff!

But serious, peace of mind = AAA

I wouldn't run the slime in any on my mountain bike, road bike and definitely not in the car tires.

My favorite tire shop charges an extra $5 a tire if they have to clean this stuff out of tires when mounting/dismounting.

AAA and a good sleeping bag is a pretty foolproof plan. I won't go into too much detail about AAA benefits, but the sleeping bag is for waiting in a cold dead 4runner for a AAA truck to show up. Ask me why I always have one now haha.

Slime works great for bike inner tubes (or your lawn mower), but other than that it's not really meant for automotive use. Will it keep a tire from going flat as fast? Probably but like others said it'll make a huge mess. It's better used on tires with an inner tube.

Stuff is awful, but if you're stranded it's better than walking. If there is no spare, then I would at least keep a bottle just in case.

We ran it in our quad tires since they were getting punctured almost every time we took them out. I wouldn't use it in my rig though. Like everyone else said, it gets everywhere!
