Snow plow

I haven't done a complete finite-element analysis of the T4R body and frame, so I can't really say how sturdy it is, but people do offroad them and haul large trailers, and I haven't heard of any failure of structural integrity. Although there are many accounts of the V8s collapsing the frame at the engine mounts on the T4R and FJC. I trust Toyota has built these trucks well, and I think the body structure is carrying more of the forces and the frame has been lightened to take advantage of this construction technique.

I haven’t heard of any account of the V8 engine collapsing the frame of a 4Runner. And even if that were true, I’d say it is more of an engine mount issue and not the fault of the frame itself. The FJ Cruiser doesn’t have a V8 engine, so I’m not sure what you mean there. The only negative thing I’ve heard about the FJ Cruiser is that a number of owners who modify their rigs and run them offroad have had some issues with frame where the engine (a V6, by the way) mounts to it. I don’t know enough about the issue to go too far into it, but I will say that the 4Runner does not suffer from the same problem. Plenty of guys do hardcore offroading in modified 4Runners and you just don’t see people complaining about any issues like that.

My snow plow set up is similar to this:

I would love to have one on my 4Runner or anything with an enclosed head cab.

There you go....a pull plow on a tractor. You can get one for your 4Runner and stay nice and toasty while you plow.

It would be nice. We never get more snow than the 4Runner can drive though, I also have a Jeep Wranlger on 33s. I just can't justify all the money for a plow, but it would be nice.

Snowplow?

I had to dig up this old thread; the snowblower and ATV recommendations are great if you have a 20ft driveway and live in the city.
if you live on property with wind and snowfall like I do the snowblower will not cut it and the ATV becomes an all day job. I have 250ft of driveway on my property. I just added a Snowbear plow to my 2000 4Runner and I think it will do the job.

There are a couple of reasons I won't use my daily commuter to plow.

. I don't care how good of a plow you get or how good of a plower you are.....you can't even come close to how good of a job you can do with a snow-blower. Not even close.

. Resale value of the 4runner will DROP. You may only be using for your driveway..but how is a potential buyer going to view it. When I see someone selling a vehicle with a plow...it tells me they've been using it for a lot more then just their driveway. I won't believe them one minute if they tell me it's ONLY for their driveway

. Unless you're real careful it tears up your lawn. If that's not a bother....fine...but for me it's a concern.

Only time I recommend a plow over a snow-blower is when you have a huge driveway. Mine is only 150' long....But a couple of my neighbors have driveways OVER 300'.

Putting a snow-plow on your truck will drop it's value in half. Doesn't matter if you use it or not. People shy away from trucks with a plow. I know I'd NEVER plow with my 4runner...or ANY vehicle I use for a daily commute. Not worth it.

I've done a lot of plowing many years ago. I've seen plows used just for driveways and parking lots. One vehicle I knew of had a bent frame within 3 weeks.

Besides the abuse to the truck...a snow blower does a much much much better job at removing the snow then a plow. It's not even a contest. Plows just can't get close enough to the driveway. They'll always leave a little bit a snow. A snow blower can easily get right down to pavement.

Here's one similar to the one I have. Mine is 10 years old though.
