So BIG time screw up

So I was filling up my 4runner at my dads shop he has 3 fuel tanks he has two diesel, and unleaded gas but i started to fill it up got roughly 8 gallons in there and he starts yelling my name and cussing and going off:rant: so now im without my 4runner for god knows how long any help guys with the fuel draining situation


first off let me start by saying why you need two diesel tanks why not get rid of on tank and have a bigger diesel tank? just saying

I am confused, if you didn't run the car, just siphon the gas/diesel fuel out of it and you will be good to go, once you refill it with gas.

All you need to do is cut a garden hose and siphon out the fuel...

Did you run the car while filling it???

wow thats a confusing post! are you trying to say that you accidentally filled your 4runner up with diesel fuel? if so, do what Veritas said.

Using a garden hose wont drain the tank completely. It really doesnt take much to drop the tank and get all the diesel out if that's what you are needing. I would tend to add some regular gas after draining and just wash it around and then drain that too, before filling up again and running the engine.

I assume you did not start the engine or turn the ignition switch to on - which primes the pump BTW.

Half a gallon or so of diesel mixed with a full tank of gas wont hurt anything...

well i would siphon they have a siphoning guard. and yea i realized how confusing it is now that i read it i wsa pissed off and tired last night.

most fuel tanks have a petcock drain on the bottom. I don't recommend smoking when you drain it.

Yeah, I didn't think you'd be able to siphon from a newer vehicle. If there isn't a petcock drain on the tank (and I kinda hope there isn't) you can disconnect your fuel line before the filter and slowly drain the tank by turning the key to ON. Letting the fuel pump "prime", as Overland Warehouse said, each time you turn the key off then on. Don't try to start the engine. This is not a fast process and getting 8+ gallons out could take quite a few iterations.
