Hey guys, I'm located in the Central Coast of CA. Just purchased a 2000 T4R and the wife wants to start taking it camping and hiking. It has its stock suspension system and I wanna put a new, solid and affordable system on it. It has 31" all terrain tires with plenty of tread and Moto Metal M0970 wheels already. I don't foresee ever needing or wanting to do more than dirt roads/trails that come with getting to camp grounds and hiking trails.
Any suggestions for a newbie?
yup. stick around the socal area for fun stuff, but for all your technical questions you should be lurking the 3rd gen boards. This socal section is broad with people having different generation 4runners. I'd suggest roaming the third generation section of the forums. That section is specifically tailored to your generation of 4runner. Also I would try the Google Custom Search associated with these forums, you'll probably find past threads with the information containing what you're looking for.

had some fun in CO today... stopped by RSG Off-road to check out their SAS build on a 5th gen ~ progress has slowed as their business has picked up with the prep for trail season in CO. the build is impressive ~ i like that they plan on keeping the electronic features intact ~ Jason said it should be ready to go by May 21.
my second stop was @ RCI ~ needed a gas tank skid... ended up picking up the full skid setup. Josh & his crew were very helpful. so... if anyone is interested in ARB skids (non KDSS) for a 5th gen ~ hit me up!!!

Damn. Would have had you pick up a steel front skid for me to save on shipping, hahaha. Few more heavy rock hits and my aluminum skid is gonna be about toast.
