So How Much Did You REALLY Spend on Your Gen 3 4Runner?

I ran into a similar thread in a different forum and decided to see how it went here.

I'm seeing most Gen 3 4Runners out there are selling on average between $5,000-$8,000 depending on mileage and condition. Of course, there are some selling for lower or higher than that.

The question is... Additional to your purchase price, how much did you really spend on it to get it to how you wanted it to be. This might be as simple as replacing brakes, wheels, tires, master cylinders, axles, etc, etc. to as complex as adding lifts, bumpers sliders, etc. It'll be different for all of course.

For some of these older 4Runners, all they need is a change of fluids and they are good to go, but most need a lot more than that even if you are aiming to keep it stock.

Paid $6000 for my 98 Limited two months ago . 197k miles. Paint is in good condition for being 14 years old. So far all I've done to it is install a B&M transmission cooler. I need to install a keyless entry system. It's getting annoying having to use the key to unlock the doors.

I think we paid roughly $37,700... that was off the showroom floor in 1997. Another $8k to get her sitting where she is now 14years later. Plus the SC that went on it in 2000 was about $3500. Regular maintenance cost add another $5-6k. So, about $48000-50,000 so far. Not including tires, gas and oil, etc.

I paid $3600 for my 96 limited in April. 225,000 miles, another $100 for timing belt service, $1400 wheels and tires...another couple hundred in misc.....so I'm into mine about $5500.

I paid $6500 for my 99 Limited with 188000ish on the odo.
Aisin tbelt and water pump kit $220.
Drive belt, cam seals and crank seal $70.
New BFGs $750.
LEDs $100.
B&M trans cooler $58.
Denso A/C condenser and dryer $120.
Left front wheel bearing $60.
Replace third member $430.
Yakima basket $225
Powder coat the wheels free
So far $8533.

The joy of owning a reliable Runner = Priceless

I paid $2500 for it stock with 170k miles. All together including the purchase price, I probably have about $6.5-7k into it

Purchase price was 5500 and maintenance and upgrade parts where around 3500 including wheels and tires do I'm at 9000 and rising.

Let's see, bought my 2001 with 78K miles last October for 12.5K. Just spent 2.5K for new (used) motor, tb, h20 pump, radiator, gaskets galore, yada yada. 15K so far and it hasn't even been a year

I've probably put around $11000 into mine between the purchase price, mods, lift, wheels, tires, and needed maintenance (not including routine maintenance like oil changes). All worth it!

$3300 For a '97 in '12 with 220/350k miles/km.

Spent oh maybe $200 more. That has paid for skid plate paint, plugs/wires, complete trans service, badly needed engine tune up, power seat repair, rear gate repair, removed all surface rust off body. Im just getting started! Have to get it fuctioning smoothly before we start buying toys

I paid $1850 for the truck, if we aren't including registration and insurance to the vehicle cost then, I've put about $1300 in parts over the past 3 years to get it the way it sits now. So I'm at around $3150 for the total cost of the vehicle.

I bought mine in Oct 2010 for 6k. It had about 165k on the odometer
A few days latter, I bought a wrecked 96 4runner for $600 but had to pay $40 to get it towed back to house.
I got my Downey off road Bilstein coil over lift kit and pan hard bar from it.
Parted the rest out for $3k

Got a free Sequoia Motor (see V8 thread) and sold my 3.4 motor for $1200

Spent
$175 for exhaust work
$150 for Eclipse Navaigation off forum
$400 for spidertrax
$80 for ghetto cold air intake
$40 for OEM floor mats
$400 for TB, WP, 2 Coil Packs, A/F Sensor, h20 sensor, Cat, Freon, AF and oil change
$100 for valve guide seals and valve cover gasket
$100 for electrical compents for the swap (relays, fuses ,butt connectors, heat shrink tubing)
$110 for electric fans
$75 for new battery (when I first bought it)
$125 for ricer radiator
$100 to shorten drive shaft
$80 to have AC line made
$100 for the AISIN manual hubs
$120 for new wheel bearings

So I have about $2575 in purchases
plus the $6000 for the 4runner
For a sub total of $8575
minus (the sale of the motor, the parts runner) $4200

So I have a grand total of $4,175 in my ride.

I paid $2500 for my 99 with 130 k miles a year ago from my brother so far have put about $50 into doing deck plate mod, air filter and a can of spray paint.

Part of me doesn't want to know how much I've spent on it, it's probably up there... I guess I don't really care, it's the love for the truck.

Give me a night with my receipt folder and calculator, stack on another $5k or so for things not documented... ain't gonna be a pretty number.
