Ok, I have 15" factory rims on my 4Runner now (BOOO!!)...but I found some 16" factory 4Runner Rims (so that I can do the Tundra brake mod later on).

Is there anything I need to switch if I put the 16" wheels on (besides tire size obviously) or can I just take my rims off and put the other rims on without any mods or changing anything. My dad said I might have to change the ball barings or something....

There are some things I am clueless on, and well, this is one of them.

just the speedo, it will read a little faster or slower, most people just leave it.

Nothing extra needed to swap from 15" to 16" rims (besides larger tires). My wife once owned a '99 2wd w/ the 15" rims and 225 tires. I upgraded hers to the 16" 5 star rims and 265/70/16 tires and all was good.

I did notice a small decrease in acceleration, but within a few weeks, I had completely forgotten how it once drove. With that aside, the upgrade was definitely worth it.

Wish I could find some of the 5 stars...but anything to get me to the point where I can do the Tundra brake mod...hopefully that will help my 4Runner drive smoother while braking...it is getting pretty bad.

Not since I bought it (in May of this year). From what I have read on here everyone said it was a waste of time b/c a few months down the road they would need it again. Is that wrong info?

Well, if you had them turned just this past May, I would not turn them again right now...they should last longer than 5 months.

Oh I am sorry...I meant that I have not turned them at all since I bought it...meaning to my knowledge they haven't been done.

How much would that cost? Any idea where to get it done in Bham?

Any toyota dealership can do it for you. Other than the dealer, just call around to a few local shops that your trust. They'd probably be cheaper. Turning rotors can run any where from $85 - $145 a pair. Prices seem to be all over the board from the places I've called.

get them turned on the hub, i had bad shaking from not having them turned on the hub, also if you don;t get them turned on the hub make sure you clean the mating surfaces as best as you can, this is one place where tolerance stack will screw you. it should only be 10-20 more if not the same. you have to ask them that though or they may just turn it on a lathe.

Not really sure on how many miles are on these rotors...I have had it for less than 10k and they have shaken the entire time I have had it.

yeah i went through 2 rotors turned, 2 new rotors and then finally had them turned on the hub and finally no more jerking or whatnot when breaking, there was around $150-300 wasted there before i sorted this out.

first set of rotors (used) turned 100-150
bought new rotors $200
having new rotors turned on the hub 150-180


if i would have had the 1st set turned on the rotor i could have saved the money on the new ones and having them turned. aaaahhhh life ;-)

i bout new rotors for my 4runner last month and they were $35 each so new rotors cost me about 70 bucks. And now i have a set i can get turned before i jack the truck up to do brakes. anyways most autoparts stores should be about the same price. good luck

He shouldn't have to adjust the Speedo if he doesn't change the size of the Tire Diameter..........If he sticks with a tire that is still 31" tall, the speedo should not be affected. The added weight of the new wheels may make the truck a little more sluggish, but that should be it.
