Be carefull though with trusmission replacment. I've heard Honda puts mostly rebuilt trannies under warranty. Make sure you get a NEW one.

I didn't write the mileage down before and after but I doubt anything happened under their watch as I had an issue beforehand. I'm pretty sure they're giving me a new transmission just for the fact that I doubt it's economical for them to rebuild our faulty transmissions due to the limited number of replacements.

Hopefully this doesn't infer potential problems for anyone else. I think mine might have been built on a monday or friday during a holiday week.

But as for the extended warranty, I would highly recommend it. We have 10yr/100,000 mile warranties through 'warranty direct' and have zero problems with their service. We had our expedition's transmission replaced at 76,000 miles with no issues at all. The 4runner however is being covered under toyota's warranty program.

At they're doing the right thing and replacing it. Those transmissions are like 10 grand at a discount part store like Conicelli! I'm looking for an extended warranty just in case I keep mine past 60,000 miles, which will most likely happen now that the wife has her eye on a Merc! My local dealer will give me the Platinum extended (8 yr./120,000mi.) for about 800 dollars. That is much easier to swallow than the majority of a tax return!

Is this a Toyota warranty? I have never seen an 8/120 Toyota warranty.

It is possible I'm slightly off on the mileage... It was late when I posted. 7 yr./100,000 is correct. I had to get the used platinum warranty because the factory had expired. 870 is a good price also.

Toyota does not owe him a new transmission. It became "not new" the moment the original owner drove it off the lot. They will replace it with a rebuilt transmission....it will be just as good as a brand new one and will be covered under warranty.

I'm surprised that Toyota is even paying for any of it, since the incorrect ATF was used. But good for you that Toyota is replacing it!
