Anyone else wondering WHY Toyota is pissing away a considerable amount of money to get yet ANOTHER V8 engine certified in the USA
when the Tundra still does not have a DIESEL engine option?

My guess is that it is of the UR engine family and, being 4.6L, it may be retune on the 1UR to fit the needs of a truck. It sounds cool, but realistically in a 4Runner? The torque is the same (plus 2 ft-lb) on my 03 V8. Why go through the trouble IF you could even get a hold of that engine? Horsepower? So what, horsepower is the easiest thing to increase, just spin the engine faster. This engine will probably be available in the 2010 4Runner, just get that.

I agree the Tundra needs a diesel engine but how about a diesel engine for the 4Runner? Coupled with a manual transmission while I'm in wishing mode..

From what i've read, and what I see for the dash layout on the new Tundra and Sequoias, is that the audio and climate controls are not placed very well, and could be closer to the driver. Just an observation. I guess if you have steering wheel controls it wouldn't be so bad.

Not announced but I'm sure the upcoming Tundra dually will have a Hino diesel.

It probably doesnt have an iron block and there is a minimal increase in power from the current V8 w/ 306ft/lb or torque and 260hp. It will be interesting to see the torque curves.

80% of the 2UZ-FE's torque is on tap at or below only 1200 rpm.

I still think 80% of all 4Runner buyers would be best served with a v6 and 2wd.
