I drive lots of dirt roads too, long dirt roads in WY and MT...

At one time I was, now replaced with 255/75/17 10k ago....

As a '17 TRD ORP owner who does mostly city driving myself, I've gotta ask, how in the world do you get 18.5 MPG? Serious question. I'm lucky to get 16.5, if I baby it.

Well, this should be fun and off the top of my head.......
Replaced door panel
Fixed cowl by windshield
Inop heated seat, fixed
Could not fix continuous squeak at 60-65
TSB for front suspension done
Rear shocks were blown out and leaking at 35 k, under warranty!! woohoo!
Slight driveline clunk 'normal" lol, I think its the lash in the r&p.
Head unit just goes out, lol A service writer said hold on for when it dies because it will and it will be spendy.
Cold drivers seat squeak un 20 degrees. Yes I live in a place where its colder than that all the time. In fact we got about 2 inches of snow at the house this week.
I don't count tires and brakes, but yes both pads, rotors, BFG KO2's, now Toyo's.
All of the maintenance done at the dealers, spanning from but not limited to: Couer D'Elene ID, Missoula Mt, Kalispell MT, Englewood Co, and the Englewood guys are fantastic.. Always helpful and laugh when I stroll up and say, how many miles are on it and what's broke now.... lol
In all honesty it hasn't been that bad of a vehicle, but I have had more items than above fixed, I just can't think of them all.
My 2013 and 2015 JKU's were horrendous, I mean gawd awful. From electrical to wheel bearings to you name it. JEEP does mean Just Empty Every Pocket. Although neither Jeep ever cost me the amount of money that my Defender 90 did.... That was a money pit. I still say that the D90 is like dating a super model, great to be seen with it on the road or trail but gawd awful to try to support because she is always looking for a richer partner. LMAO

Drive like a cop is following you and don't exceed 70 on the hwy... and LONG hwy trips. I have/still drive quite a few dirt roads in WY and MT that were dirt for 40 miles at a stretch one way to get in, and back, can only go 40 mph, get good mpgs there. But I don't recommend going unless you want to go fishing or shooting once your out there. :- )
Please keep in mind, I am not the norm with mpg or miles. You can find me on the mpg site as ice cream truck. If you go through it, I've averaged some tanks in MT /WY in the low 13's multiple times just doing the PSL.
Todays trip out was about 500 miles, and some was all dirt with some hairy potholes. We are on private land that used to be a old mining town, about 10k acres so I am told. So, lots of scouting and offloading to do. AVG 19.5, pretty good but mostly down hill to get here. I am sure it will be less when I head home.

I think the tires you have may play a part in your mpg. I'm running P rated 265/70/17 nitto TG G2's. Which weigh about the same as the oem bridgestones and have the TRD Pro wheels which are a little lighter I think. I honestly don't really baby my car but also don't floor it all the time. I'm at nearly 7k miles now and changed the oil at 1k and then at 5k and I've changed the air filter at 5k as well. Perhaps that is making a difference? Also I do run ethanol free 87. I see you have a rack and some other accessories. Mines always empty inside and doesn't have any aftermarket rack or lift yet.

Dang man what do you do for a living? I definitely cannot see you making due with anything smaller than the 4runner lol. I knew when I bought the 4r it wouldn't get great gas mileage but I bought it cause its what we wanted, and for the things we do it will serve the purpose better than my Acura MDX did.

I was talking about dumping my 4R to get the most I can before the value really tanks and I said I would like better mpg.......
That's when someone snydley said to me today, "you don't buy a 4R for mpg, and if you can't afford it buy a Camry.....'
If anyone here feels that way, please see my scenario, (and I can afford it, just considering a different option)
I have owned my 2016 TRDP since Feb of 2016, and I have put 88410 miles on it as of today. Yes, 88k and probably 90k by next Monday. So that breaks down to 4911 gallons of gas at 18 mpg, for a total amount of fuel spent around $12k in 20 months. (another website tracked my mpg and it was around 18 when I stopped using it a few months ago)
Break down:
Owned for 20 months:
Mileage: 88410
4420 miles per month driven
245 gallons @$2.45 avg each month of ownership.
So, $601 a month in fuel. which is a $40 fill up every three days ish......
So, I ask all of you who say "I didn't buy a 4R for MPG and I don't care what the mpg is" how many of you would continue to drive a 4R if they had to fill up every three days and they needed the room of a 4R and a car would not work due to the cargo room needed?
Would you then care about the MPG?
I posed my avg fill-up frequency and dollar amount to this fella and his answer was he would have to ride a bike... lol

As much as you spend on gas, go buy a 2nd car like a Prius and the money you save in Gas will pay for it.

Tacticool said exactly what I was thinking a few pages back...If I were you I'd be shopping the Subaru Crosstrek,. I'd throw a roof rack with a box or cargo basket on top, a hitch with a carrier on it if I needed even more cargo capacity, and call it a day. You'll get insanely better mileage along with off roading capability. Done.
