I also drive my 4runner a lot and am getting around 20MPG. I think this is pretty good for a full size 4X4 SUV and yes I am going to keep driving it.

I tried to be, somehow it linked my forum account with my Facebook and changed my username to my actual name and would only let me log on through my phone. I still have a ton of VW parts to sell on there, just haven't had the time/motivation to do it.

I only ask because I met a guy last week, in the same line of work as you, same year trdpro same color, and he had an almost identical loadout, two boxes of federal, same folding tables, nearly identical rifle bag and placement.

He is from NC so I knew it wasn't you, but he had a malinois riding shotgun. I say go for it.

The way I see it, drive what you like as long as it fits your needs and keeps you happy. Fuel consumption and pricing was never a huge deal to me until I owned a vehicle that I daily drove and consumed at a pace of 10 mpg.

I realized visiting the pump more than 1x per week per car was a threshold that I was not content with. Thus, while I still own a car that consumes 10 mpg it stays in the garage most of the year and sees maybe 2000-3000 miles per year, all smiles.

I've also owned a Prius so I figure everything balances out.

I get 13mpg. I happily floor it and choose to drive it over my wife's 4 banger Audi around town..with a smile at every fill up without a care in the world.

For starters you cannot control all aspects of the vehicle. Take headlights for example: There are basically two positions for full operation, manual and automatic. In manual mode, you have to turn on the headlights and automatic mode it turns them on for you at dusk. Fine so far right? In both modes you decide when to use high beam or low beam, now get this, except the sensor decides if high beams are rreeeeaaaalllllyyyy needed. Example: A car is coming towards you and you have it on high beam. The sensor picks up the headlights and auto dims the headlights, when the car passes the light goes back to high beam.... except when it doesn't. I have blinded some drivers for a few seconds. I have needed high beams and not been able to use them because of reflection of lights off a railroad crossing sign. Do they work? Sure, after a fashion, but they absolutely don't function like I use my headlights. So maybe it's just dumbass me lol.

Auto stop at red lights and in traffic is a *****. Yes, they give you a button to turn that feature off. No, it won't stay off and you only remember to hit the button when it kills the engine going through a drive through lol.

Radar cruise control.... need I say more.

Truthfully, for 95% of the people interested in a vehicle like this it is perfect. Just drive it. It won't let you back over something, it will auto brake if you forget, reminds you if you cross a line, rides good, comfortable, has all the bells and whistles and will be reliable and dependable forever. Tons of interior room too.

However, that vehicle has no soul... none whatsoever. My new Tacoma, even though it has the same 3.5 engine, has a soul. It has a six speed manual transmission, is not really quiet, rides like a truck and you have to do everything yourself. I love it because you have to drive it and never get bored. You have to pay attention. It has a personality. The 4Runner has a soul too, even though it is a more subdued one than the truck. The Highlander? None.

Oooh I like this concept...1engineer going spiritual...I agree, my last two vehicles were soulless (is that a word)...I was trying to put my finger on why I like the T4R so much...it feels like its communicating with me....mostly it keeps asking to go offroad

I'm coming from a 2010 Touareg TDI, it got around 25 mpg on the highway and handled great; off road the gobs of torque and center locking differential did everything I ever needed. If it wasn't for it being up so high in milage and the buyback amount being so great I'd still have it,

This is exactly what put me in a 2017 ORP 4R. My Touareg TDI was an 09 with 115K on the clock. VW paid me $2500 to drive it 60K miles in 3 years. I loved it (still do.), would do 85 MPH all day and return 23 - 25 MPG. But alas I love my 4R more already. Now, excuse me, I have to go pick up my SSO Slimeline and Sliders fro the Powder Coat shop.
