Socal wheelers, need advice

The pics above are from Sycamore Canyon, but usually you have to camp across the road. 5 minutes up the road will be "Thornhill Broome" and that is the ONLY place south of Santa Barbara you will be able to actually "sleep on the sand" Although you wont be able to drive your runner on the sand :nono:

You could crash there and have a nice sunrise drive down PCH towards LA and then off to your next destination. Like Jay said Bolsa Chica is an option, but I'm pretty sure you have to be in an actually RV or truck camper to stay over night. Too many laws and regulations.

You could also tell Jay not to cut his grass till you show up to give you that outback feel

There's lots of camping by Silverwood, Lake Arrowhead (where I live) and Big Bear (all within about an hour of eachother too.

Ok, so heres the plan,

I will be finding a camping spot here on Wed evening April 6th, I want a spot on the beach and will bring a small tent for this night.

The Point Mugu State Park address is: 9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265. The Point Mugu SP phone number is (818) 880-0350.
Point Mugu State Park Directions: This location is reached by taking the Pacific Coast Hwy for about 15+ miles south of Oxnard. As you can see in the photo to your right, signs clearly mark your arrival at the park. Here's a Yahoo map to Malibu's Point Mugu State Park.

Point Mugu campsite description: There are 2 camping areas: the parking lot-style Thornhill Broome Beach area (with ocean views) and the Sycamore Canyon area, with a sheltered, woodsy feel. Both tents and RV's are accepted at Point Mugu SP. There is a 31 ft limit to the length of motorhomes and trailers. Wifi service is available. If you're looking for beauty, this park has it in abundance.

and then on Thurs night April 7th (after Conan) I will head up and camp at Pilot Rock Road | San Bernardino California Off-Road Trails | Trails.com

right near Lake Arrowhead.

Friday morning Ill wheel Pilot Rock.

So, the questions now are 1.whos gonna join me in Malibu? and 2.whos gonna join me camping at Pilot rock? and then 3.whos gonna join me 4wheeling Pilot Rock?

After 4wheeling Im headed to Vegas to spend Fri night/Sat and stay with my uncle and I wouldnt be oppposed to having a caravan of 4runners headed into Vegas fresh from a 4wheeling trip!

i read that wrong Jay. I thought at first you said you were harvesting Weed lol! Duhocky ill go wheeling with you That trail is a few minutes from my house so im in. We can go wheel something harder if you would like. COugar Buttes is about 20 minutes away from that pilot rock trail (CB is my favorite local spot). But i guess pilot / dishpan would also be a good day.

He said it's fine, but my one friend who I would expect to go may have gotten a job, and that might ruin his chance. Gonna have to find someone else to bring along with me.

I dont know... close to the trailhead probably, that way its not far to go in the am.

Im kinda looking to the locals for some specifics cuz I dont know exactly where to go.

Are you looking for more primitive camping or more like a campground with restrooms and picnic tables? There's both kinds up here so I can help you (I live in Arrowhead).

Ill be sleeping in my truck, It doesnt have to be primitive, Ill be driving up from LA right after Conan tapes on Thurs the 7th, probably grab some In'n'Out on my way to Arrowhead. Are these paid or free sites? am we gonna have any problem getting a place to park/camp that weekend?

Just got my antifatigue mat that I will be attaching to the sleeping platform as a first padding, then Ill have some memory foam and my sleeping bags and stuff.

I plan on having a small tent, but I was only gonna set that up so I can camp on the beach in Malibu on Wed the 6th. Speaking of the beach camping, does that cost anything?
