softer suspension aka Franco's minivan quest

You're a father now. What you want doesn't matter anymore, it's all about your child. We have an 05 SR5 V8 as well, and an 11 month old baby boy. We live in pothole hell "chicago", and I can see where your wife is coming from. But, in terms of an SUV in general, you'd be hard pressed to find a smoother riding vehicle than the 4runner in that segment. No way a "true" SUV like a 4runner is going to ride like a minivan. She wants a Sienna. If she's the one that'll be spending most of the time taking care of your child, then I suggest you listen to her. Because in a few months, when you realize that your child was crying all night long and you didn't hear a thing, and she was up with him/her and didn't wake you to help, you'll be FAR happier driving that Sienna then the other way around. These are words of wisdom, from one new father to another.
We moved to Chicago from Carolina in Feb, and had the 4runner loaded down. Yes, the extra weight smoothed it out "we have the tow package". The vehicle felt "at home" with the extra weight in the back.
We love our 4runner as our family wagon. I have an 01' GS430 for my manhood though, which does the trick for cheap.

I don't have kids and I'm not married (live w/ Gf of 3 yrs) so my perspective is different...
You enjoy it, it's safe for kids and it does everything it needs too.
Unless getting a Sienna is significantly cheaper than keeping the 4runner or she is driving it 80% of the time I would keep it...

Check out a used land cruiser 100 series. Provides a smoother ride than the 4R.

IMHO, getting 265/70/17 would improve the ride a little. Maybe not enough for her to change her mind. Maybe tell her that the 4runner is better in the winter, somewhat easier to park and you would lose money if you trade in... Although I drove a rental Sienna for a week, it's really not that bad, my top speed was 109 mph on it according to my GPS.. (this was somewhere in the central US, no people around)

i know the sienna is more, comfy,smooth, roomy and the dog can come on trips and she drives it mostly buts a minivan

The problem is, that you are on the right track but your wife is not. So maybe send her on the forum so we can tell her: DO NOT GET A SIENNA! (Only if it's white

thank you but i got a feeling if my wife goes on this site, u guys
will influence her decision more.
well my plan is to go look at fully loaded sienna with her this
weekend and when she see how expensive they are she'll
change her mind.
i did that when i brought my runner, she wanted a avalon
so i made them price out a top of the line 40k avalon. so she settled for a runner
she just doesnt understand there different trims

There is a huge difference in trim prices so hopefully you get to keep the 4runner.

Get a grip, man! Keep the 4Runner! If you lose the 4Runner, you will spiral ever downward into the beaten-down-man abyss. This is your profound turnaround point whereby you must not fail. I know what I am talking about - I am happily partnered with 2 kids. Just get her focused on to another subject, like your home and how it can be improved. Just keep the 4Runner. That may work, but then again, the top-of-the-line Sienna (i have one) is VERY attractive in the practical sense! It literally has everything i ever want in a "land cruiser"...power folding doors and cargo hatch, power folding 3rd row, NAVI, GREAT JBL surround system, cool theater type rear entertainment system, room to spare in all 3 rows, memory seat, power folding outside mirrors, laser cruise control, HIDs, and one of the smoothest ride on the planet, etc...so, be careful with that route of "attack" because it may backfire on you!
