Softex seats

Hello
Just wondering what is everyone's thoughts on softex seats? I have them in my SR5 premium they seem to run warmer compared to leather. My old 4Runner had cloth seats so heat was not a problem on a long drive. When I got truck I did not have any long drives until recently and just notice how warm they get.

I had leather in my 2010 SR5 and softex in my 2016 Trail. I like the softex. It isn't as slick as the leather and the material is more consistent. The SR5 had different grades of leather depending on the wear area. I don't notice any difference in heat. I did have a 2 year gap between my 4runners, so no back to back comparison.

I love the softex.
I'm in and out of luxury real leather cars all day and they are nice but the softex seems softer and seems to wear better.
It's a total judgement call as I know there's people that don't like it but go ahead and put a slash for 1 in the " like it " column for me
 
I hate it. Back in the old days, you had to pay extra to upgrade from vinyl seats to cloth. At some point the automobile manufacturers figured out that if they gave the vinyl a fancy name, they could charge extra for the "upgrade" from fabric. We have all been duped into paying extra for seats that are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I'm already sweating my n#+$ off and it's only May. Can't wait for August to roll around.

Hahaha! I'm in Vegas so I can relate. I like the seats quite a bit actually. I just miss the nut blower that older Toyota trucks had under the steering wheel. Best invention ever.

My favorite interior ever was in my 2000 single cab Tacoma. It was the gray patterned fabric that was tougher than any leather or vinyl out there.

My only beef with my 4Runner's cloth interior is that the black just seems to stay constantly dirty. Heck, the whole black interior does.

LOL, so that's what it's called! I have one in my MKII Supra, never thought it had a name :-)
 
had it in my last 4runner and hated it... bought cloth in this 4runner and had Alea Leather installed.... much nice and much less $$$$

Agreed. I have a Trooper with it and had an LC80 with it. Sucks they no longer have them.

I like the softex. Easier to clean up than cloth and will hopefully last longer. A lot of the leather in Japanese autos never seems to wear that well anyway after 10 years or so.

If that was anything like the factory seats on my 2001 SR5 than it was like sitting on a coil of hemp rope. The 01 had cloth that simulated small rolls across the seating area. if you wore short pants the back of the thighs were constantly rubbed by the fabric. My neighbor and I both had that cloth upgraded to leather before picking up our trucks. We both felt it was a deliberate marketing ploy by Toyota to make the factory seats so uncomfortable you wanted an upgrade :)
 
No, the one I had was just like this picture. Just good non-sticky, thick cloth material. Very cool and comfortable and didn't attract lint and hair.

The only time mine feel warmer than the air temp is when the seat heater is on. The Softex seems to be a nice middle ground since leather is too much work to maintain. Cloth is ugly and absorbs everything.

First time with softex. I'm inclined to say they feel warmer than leather. My previous truck had leather seats and I don't recall them being as warm as these. I read up on softex; some of the claims are they're cooler and breath better than leather, but I'm not convinced with this material. I really wished Toyota just used leather.
 
I actually like the softex. It looks nicer than just cloth seats and hopefully will wear good.

What is everyone using for cleaning the seats? Just any upholstery cleaner?
 
The longer I go with the Softex, the more I am compelled to go with Katzkin front perforated leather in black with red stitching to atch my TEP interior. On hot days I feel like I'm sitting on a Hefty bag. The seats aren't my favorite in comfort either, the back bolsters are too wide and I end up planting my left foot down everytime I turn a corner so I'm not sliding around in the seat.

I miss the TRD Sport seats my 09' Taco had. Super comfy.
 
Bought my 2016 TEP in November and the softtex seat have been great. Now that the warmer months are rolling around, I do notice that my lower back is a little sweaty. I am compelled to look into aftermarket perforated leather seats.:juggle:
 
My first car was a '79 Mustang with blue vinyl seats. You'd get in it on a hot summer day and you'd come close very serious burns. These Softex seats are nothing close to the old days of vinyl. Maybe not as nice as leather but true vinyl seats are the worst.
