no fan boy here.... I admitted it is lackluster but I said it was an easy fix.
 
I had a 2010 SR5. It was missing some of the things I wanted, and the color started to grate on me over the year and a half I owned it. I STRONGLY weighed my options and looked at a GX470 or the GX460. They are stellar SUVs, but some of the design fundamentals bothered me more than I cared for. In particular, the barn door and the lack of power retractable rear window are things that I wouldn't want to give up. So, I did the next best thing.... I bought a 2011 Limited in blizzard pearl. I am able to enjoy the ride quality I want, the benefit of a BOF, most of the creature features, and a little refinement around the edges. I wasn't happy with my SR5 for a number of reasons, but I am happy in my limited.

One of the things I really like about the 4runner is the accessibility to mod it myself. The stereo install I was able to complete with the plethora of information available here. The speaker replacement, easy. The other mods are all easy because there is such support as with this forum. Some people may like everything stock, but I like to tinker with things.
 
It is just amazing that someone would sell a vehicle within a year of buying it especially with the internet these days and all the information you can dig up. These people must have more money than sense. It is even more ridiculous that some people are going to minis and mustangs, this is about as far from a 4runner as you can get.

It seems like SR5 owners would come out far ahead by switching to blisten shocks instead of trading in the vehicle and throwing away all that money. We ended up with the Limited after selling our 06 Tacoma and the handling on the road has been a huge improvement. My wife is a lot more confident behind the wheel on the rare occasions she drives it. Most of our mall crawling and road driving is done with her highland which drives more like a car than a truck.
 
Our Dodge dealer had a 2006 GX470 in the used car lot. I always wanted to try one so I test drove it. It had the air suspension and adjustable shocks. That thing rode much smoother than I ever expected. It sounded and had about the same power as my 03 V8. I was kind of impressed with it. The dealer also had a 2011 limited 4runner. I test drove it and found the ride to be much harsher than the Lexus and my lifted 03 with BFG all terrains. Also the leater seats seemed hard to me. The 2011 was also a dog at low speed until the rpm got up then maybe was close to being the same acceleration as the Lexus or my 03. Also I miss the growl sound from the exhaust at low speeds on the V8s. When I am ready for a newer vehicle it will most be a newer Lexus. Sometimes I find used ones on Autotrader sold by private party in Phoenix setting in front of some rich guys home with very low use and mileage for about the same price as a new Limited 4runner .

2. not so cushy 4R, extra cash for mods and keeping the man card....


I will choose option 2!

I am just amazed that you would spend all that money on an LE when a perfectly good SR5 can be had. You must have more money than sense. It is just ridiculous that you got rid of a perfectly good Taco and threw your money away on a new LE.

Oh ... wait ... what? Oh, it's your money, and your choice? Never mind.
 
I already have a car that corners well. What I needed was something tough, big but not too cumbersome, nice but not too blingy, and able to take me across the dry sand without getting stuck.

I could not be happier with my new 4runner. :thumb3:

I think most people's experience with "SUVs" is really with crossovers, which drive much more like a car. On a short, mild test drive they might not realize just how differently a body-on-frame, solid-rear axle truck actually drives. The 4Runner drives quite well for what it is, but it doesn't ride or drive like a tall car. So I could see how people who are not car enthusiasts like we are could wind up with something that really isn't appropriate for them.
 
As everyone says all about what you want and need. We have a 2012 LE, 1000 miles on it. Wife originally wanted a Pilot, we tested that, the4runner, and highlander. She wanted the 4runner because she gets car sick and liked it best. Bonus for me, I wanted it all along!!!! We like the grunty truck look and wanted room for camping stuff and light off road use.

I agree with another OP since the T4R is a truck.....wife has an RX350 which is too cushy for me.....in fact my SR5 is a bit cushy, wanted a Trail but they were not available at the time....have owned 2 smaller Chevy Blazers & a 2002 T4R SE....SE was the best untill this one.....different strokes for different folks.....every vehicle has its pros & cons

I am very satisfied with my 11 SR5 that I've had since February 2012 and now has 2,700 miles. Worst comes to worst upgrade the front shocks if needed. My truck is actually more comfortable to ride in than my wife's 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD. It is perfect for what I use the truck for which are family trips and long hauls.
If I want to go off-roading then I can take my 97 4Runner and not have to worry about scratching the paint on my new truck.
 
I'm new to the SR5 4R and only have 250 miles on mine. Yes, it's a little soft, likes to go diving, but the sucker hangs on quite well. It's different than my 2010 F150 SuperCrew, that's for sure. My Ford was surprisingly nimble. But, my 4R tracks well and if you get it out of ECO mode and put REAL gas in it, it's got plenty of grunt. I like it. Now if only the 4WD indicator would quit flashing when I try to put it in 4WD!!:gun4:

So you think Bilstein 5100's up front may solve the dive??
 
TE Front End Dive

I have an 11 TE, stock that thing handled like a Squirl all over the road driving down the freeway anytime there were groves it would wallow in & out of them really Bad! It was pretty lame even when there wasn't any groves. I had to seriously slam on the breaks a few times, weather following to close or not paying attention, the bottom line is Stock tires and suspension/spring rate, it fell on its Face with MAJOR Nose Dive. I couldn't believe how bad it was. But, Stiff front OME springs and medium rear with a 3 inch lift and some 285 MT's it changed everything and now is Stable, Firm and fairly Rigid yet still soaks up the small road chop. It is worth it to set it up properly, just bite the bullet and you can fix it, now it handles like an excellent Truck. Off road it will perform unreal and onroad problems are solved. SO I agree with anyone claiming nose dive, just fix it with stiffer springs and new shocks, don't sell it. From the factory things are never perfect with any rig. :fro:
 
I don't think there's an objective answer to a subjective question. I enjoy how folks have different tastes.

It surprises me that some people appear not to have taken a real test drive before they dropped that much cash. Nose dive doesn't magically appear after you own it.
