Soldering climate control circuit board?

I've searched and found nothing. Has anyone had any luck resoldering the circuit board connections? My buttons either need to he pressed really hard, or pressed at the same time as another button to work. For example, when you press the recirculate/fresh air button it will do what the outside temp button does. But if you press both it will work fine like its supposed to. I'm thinking it just has loose or broken connections because its a 2 sided circuit board. I think that is also what the companies on eBay do but I'm not 100% sure. So has anyone resoldered their circuit board and fixed it?

Yes it's the feed-throughs on the double-sided board that are bad. I have soldered mine about 4 times and it will work for a couple of months then start to act up. I got another control from a wreck and does the same thing. It is probably a couple of joints that are bad. I can flex the board and get it to work then not work. The new board is different than the old one - in that twisting it different ways causes the issue, so apparently it's not the same joints on every board. I guess you have to solder them all (and sometimes more than once!).
 
^ exactly what he said, the " cross connectors" or some sites call them " barrel connectors", its the small hollow connectors that run through the board from the back to the front of the double sided printed circuit board, I changed all the switches and still had the problem, I'm planning on getting a small tiny drill bit and drill out a few and fill in with solder to see what may work, <- don't try that , I'm attempting it on a second board i have
 
I'll probably do it in a few days. It's been like 95 everyday so I'm afraid of messing it up and having it not work lol
 
I sent mine in to be fixed by the guy in Winona, MN. Should be mailed back to me early this week (I hope...it's dang humid now), and I will give a report. It was only $77, plus my shipping cost ($5). Found him on eBay.

Tell us what he did - look for shiny solder connections on the board.

I saw that guy on eBay too. I'm thinking about sending mine off too so I don't risk messing mine up then paying $300 for a used one. I wonder if they replace bulbs too because I was going to go to the dealer and order the 3 LCD ones.
 
Got the CC back today and just installed it. Seems to work perfectly! More testing is needed, but all the buttons worked as they should. I did not open the module to see the solder joints because the guy put a warranty sticker across the seam. Lifetime warranty, so it was important to me to leave it alone.

did you have burnt out bulbs too and were they replaced if so?
 
Hey guys. I just had the climate control unit work on from my 99 Limited. I bought the service off ebay for this company in TN.

The unit now works flawlessly. I paid $70.75 for the service. Spent about $25 on shipping. It took a week and 2 days to get it back from the time I dropped it off at the UPS store.

I would recommned using them. They also called me the day after I made the purchase to followup on it and see if I had any questions. Excellent customer service.
 
I have recently done the soldering myself with noticeable improvements. I basically touched as many soldered connections as I could to heat and reconnect everything. It wasn't perfect though so I did some more testing but I found all of the switches to work correctly.

The part I haven't figured out: I reconnected the board and the box without the front panel, so I had an energized board hanging out of my dash. Everything worked perfectly... Like it was new. All of the buttons, all of the lights. One push of each switch was all it needed. Didn't have to press them very hard at all. That proved the electrical functionality. I'm thinking the problem is in the way the front cover / buttons make contact with the switches. Anyone wanna test the board like this to see if this is a common problem?
 
Climate Control Fix !

I done some re-soldering and mine worked for a few days, then quit again, I sent if off to the MN guy on Ebay and it works perfect now, he also replaced the bulbs in it. He has excellent service, having said that, I'm surprised no one here has figured out what's being replaced, it can't be that much. I have searched, I don't think the answer is posted here yet. With all the knowledge on this board, we should figure it out. ANYONE ??
 
I am very interested in sending my CC in as well. The defrost and cabin air recycle circuit board is out on mine. I have my old burnt out CC and I know it works fine on that one. I just want to swap it out and I am thinking about bringing it to an electrician unless someone can refer it to another person who can fix it faster and cheaper.
 
Friggin' climate control!

I am perfectly capable of adjusting my own heat/AC and can survive for minutes at a time when too hot or cold.
That said I am having the same issues and would prefer to refit a manual lever type system. Is this possible?
