The airlines are stepping this stuff up.
I was on a flight once, and all of a sudden the pilot (not the stewardess) comes on the line and says "Will so-and-so, so-and-so, etc....please stand up?"
So I along with 4 other guys stood up, wondering what the deal was.
The pilot says "These men and women are serving in the U.S. military, and deserve better than they most likely have had to put up with. Please give these men and women a round of applause as they proceed to first class seating."
SWEET. I don't ask for extra stuff for having served, but it's nice when it happens.

From a military family member, thank you to all those who serve or have served, especially the ones that paid the ultimate sacrifice. The rest of us enjoy our many freedoms and liberties only because of what you have done, and I appreciate that from the bottom of my heart.
I also appreciate people like this who show respect and reverence for these fallen soldiers. They deserve all of our gratitude and prayers for their loved ones.

Are the family members on the plane also or is this transportation to their particular locations / cities?
I've heard of family members escorting their fallen family member at least part of the way home. In the two cases I experienced, the fallen were escorted by unrelated fellow soldiers.
Yeah...damn it, who's cutting onions!
