Some guy crushed my bumper. New aftermarket bumper?

I have an 06 SE 2WD. Some guy in a semi backed into me today and ruined my bumper. I'm sure it's going to be pricey to fix so here's my question.

Do I just let the insurance company make it look new again?

Do I pocked the money and buy a more heavy duty bumper?

I'm not even sure my suspension could support a heavier bumper. Any opinions? Would it be silly to put a heavy duty bumper on a vehicle that is driven on paved roads exclusively?

If you're not planning to do any off-road stuff where a metal bumper would actually be needed, then it comes down to whether you like the look enough to give up some mileage.

I would expect that you will need to beef up the front suspension a bit though especially if yours is original since you would likely notice a drop in the already low front end. That said, beefing up the front end would not be that expensive and keeping it simple would not get you into alignment difficulties.

jdkilroy is right, an aftermarket bumper would be great and look awesome but it is going to be a lot heavier. Unless you want to put some stiffer springs up front (which would also lift the front a bit) and are willing to suffer the MPG loss (wouldn't think it would be a lot, but should be noticeable).

You could go with an aluminum bumper from Aluminess (or ask Demello, CBI, or Shrockworks to build it from Al)that would weigh a lot less but those are very pricey.

My 4runner is Silver as well. Should it be the same silver color? Do you know what the number is that correlates with your color?

Also, a 2005 bumper is the same as an 06, right?

Nope, Toyota changed the bumper designs when the changed the headlight a d taillights. You'd have to get a 06-09 bumper.

If anyone would want to sell me a factory black front bumper cover for 2012 that would be great. I have a 2" scratch that I can't live with.
