Soon New DC FC Hybrid or MT ATZ P3?

Just saw these two tires in magazines recently as possibly coming out soon, ATZ P3 and DC FC-II Hybrid.

My 4runner has 265/70-17 BFG ATs C rating on Tundra rims. I think I have enough of lift (racerunner coils up front and OME rear springs, prob set 2-2.5" lift) to stuff 285/70-17 tires in there. I have decent tread on the BFGs, but they do have some plugs in them and I am not sure how old they are seeing they were put on by previous owner. Read some of the threads on here about older tires sort of makes me nervous, as I plan on starting to road trip this thing alot next year and hopefully finding people to go on trail rides with in Cali and west coast. So with the lift I have an its a 5 speed with 4.30 hearing, Im thinking 285s should fit nice and still do ok gearing wise.

I used to LOVE mud tires and aggressive tires because of the look, but guess I am getting old. And I am in Cali now and do not mud like east coast. Mud tires are loud, are not great in rain, snow, vibrations, wear out fast. I even took KM2s off my Jeep and sold them to put on Dick Cepek FC-IIs and am so much happier!

So with the 4runner, I am looking for a nice A/T, and sometimes even wonder about going less aggressive A/T like a BFG Rugged Terrain or Toyo Open Country A/T. But looking at them seems they might be only available in P-rated or have to jump up to E. Id rather have C or D load, as I am not going to be towing/needing E range. I see a lot of Falken Wild Peaks, they look ok and would need to do some digging on their reviews. If the Rugged Terrain was available in C load with 285/70-17 I might like that option alot.

So yea, just curious if these two new tires might come out and what sizes and load ratings they would be available in. I guess they would still give me my childish "cool aggressive" type look without the issues of a mudder. Be nice for long road trips, light to mild wheeling, and if possible be good weight to keep mpg reasonable. I am trying to read through threads on here and some of you guys advise against some of the more mild A/Ts because they would not take airing down well, and I know anytime I have been out in my Jeep everyone airs down so I assume if I go wheeling in the 4runner around here there will be rocks and airing down too.

"The Baja ATZ P3 has a unique hybrid design between an all-terrain and mud terrain, to give you the grip you need for your weekend adventures--and the smooth ride to get you down the road in comfort.

It features an extra wide footprint and beefy tread blocks for great all around traction, and select sizes have their exclusive PowerPly 3-ply sidewalls."

I put Hankook ATMs on my dad's Silverado, do great in snow, good highway ride, and good hunting tire. I have read after certain mileage they get noisy and wear funny, but if you search every tire you will find something someone doesnt like about it.

So yea, just curious about what future tire to potentially get for my 98 4runner with 2.5" lift and current 265/70-17 BFG ATs C load. Since my commutes will be going away with grad school over, the longer road trips will hopefully be for wheeling with guys on the forum, camping, or hunting. So I was thinking a beefier tire would scratch my hillbilly itch for some coolness, but not wanting an MT at all. A nice AT or even a milder AT that might be fairly light, ride nice, quiet, but still be able to do the kinds of trails in Cali and West Coast I might be able to get to in New Mexico, AZ, etc.

Thanks for any opinions, input, or advice. I will keep reading threads on here about tires as study breaks haha.....by summer time maybe I will have it all figured out!

The ATZs do look ok, just wasnt sure if they were too mild to wheel? I love the look of those P3s if they do come out, look like such a nice compromise but only real world feedback will tell if they are truly quieter than a mudder and work well in different conditions.

The Dura Tracs I see tons of guys like, both Yota forums and Jeep forums. They just never caught my eye, but I shouldnt be so visual haha I am looking for good AT. They "look" like they might be noisy for an AT but I have not read up on them enough, probably need to as the price seems good. I saw a Dodge ram today with some REALLY nice look Goodyear Wrangler All Terrains, I even stopped my Jeep, got out, looked at them, couldnt find a model name, and googled the Goodyear website and could not find them. They looked like they had the sidewall bites of the Dura Trac but the tread sort of looked like a Cooper AT or mud tire....looked super nice, not huge voids so looked like they might be somewhat quiet...

I am gonna read up on the Dura Tracs....the price is fair it seems, and I will read up on the ATZs as well, but $321 a tire yikes them puppies aint cheap!! Id hope they are 50k mile tires at that price! Do you wheel them at all? Feedback?

I am still being a hillbilly....I want quiet and fair mpg, good highway ride, durability and wheeling but still want them to look cool hahah...I just cant give up the cool looking thing no matter how much age comes upon me!!!

atz's too mild, no way. they work well offroad, in bad weather, etc. tell the truth they are one of the best tires ive ever owned for the combo of street/off road as an all year round tire, fairly quiet, & to me the ride is fine, but im use to D & E's on my 4wd's. years ago i never went over 40k on any tire because i felt overall performance dropped off after that, but if i wanted/needed 50k+ for AT tires id go with something else. i hear the MTZ'S are good also, http://www.amazon.com/Mickey-Thomps...son+Baja+MTZ+Radial+Tire+-+33X12.50R17LT+108Q quiet even but again E's may not be your cup of tea. if i were you id seriously look into the duratracs for 285's, ive never had em but hear great things about em all around, & they do have a very cool look. sometimes its hard to get a tire with everything you want but seems like they would be a decent compromise for you. have you looked at these, http://www.kellytires.com/en-US/tires/safari-tsr cooper sst http://www.discounttirezone.com/Cooper-Discoverer-STT_c_433-1.html , nitto trail grappler http://4wheelonline.com/Nitto_Trail_Grappler.135956.456184 or general grabber at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Grabber+AT+2

they do look nice in that picture!!!

I have not seen the Safari tire, those actually look pretty good I gotta check out pricing.....

Coopers I have seen and like, again would probably come down to pricing....

Nittos look too aggresive, I do not want to the typical mud tire wine on the highway and premature wear....Im going to stick to an AT if I put anything on, unless I end up moving somewhere I can hunt and four wheel all the time with mud, I will not get mudders again for many years. I am burned out on them, they look cool, but wear fast, can cause vibrations, arent always great in snow or rain, and yea just the noise bothers me in my old age and the extra rolling resistance cant be good for MPG

Back in the day growing up near Pittsburgh had a tire shop in Aliquippa PA that you could go, tell them your size, and they walked you through a warehouse of blems, and you could get gnarly MTs and ATs of all kinds for dirt cheap because of blems. If I could find a place like that, and get a smoking deal on tires, Id take pretty much any MT/AT if the price was a bargain! Even the generic brand stuff!

Those General Grabbers are CHEAP! hah I like that...Id have to check out reviews see how guys like them....

Thanks for all your help!! Helps me keep my options open and keep looking....

Who knows I might end up staying same size, a Yota friend said the bump to 285 could make my truck feel like a slug unless I regear. I have 4:30 (I think normally 4:10s) some unique gearing package, so have some little extra gearing to help taller tire....he also said with 285s I could need wheel spacers or they rub upper control arms...so who knows maybe Ill have to stay 265 although it looks like I got lots of room under there. Not good at knowing the 17 inch rim tire sizes, I grew up on 15" rims and tire sizes were EASY hah....not sure if there is a taller skinny 17" tire or maybe a thicker 17" tire that would fill in the wheelwells more but even if its thicker but not taller maybe Id still need wheel spacers....got homework to do I guess
