Sounds like a 10 year old shopping cart at Walmart

My 2003 4Runner makes a squeeking sound while I drive it. At first is sounded like the rear wheels, now it sounds like front and rear.
It is not real loud (not yet) and I only hear it while I drive. As I gain speed I dont hear it but that is probably due to increased road noise.

I had the brakes checked and there is plenty of pad left all the way around. I was told that it is dirt getting in the wheels.

That doesnt sound logical.

Any ideas? Is there sopmething I should be greasing? I have not found a lot of grease fittings under there.

you could jack each tire up and spin it to see if you get and noise. At the same time you might have to have load on the wheels to get them to make a noise if it is in fact the wheels/bearing/hub. Is it engine noise? Can you make the car make the noise while in N and increasing idle. If then you know its not engine side. Anyway nobody had responded to your post so i thought id give it a go.

Mine does this too. Only in "D" though. During the squeal I can pop the shifter over into "4" and it stops. I cant replicate the problem when in 4th, under any conditions. I have no idea whats causing the noise.

I have not done anything to it yet. Our furnace went out so I have been focused on that.
I will try changing gears and see if that makes a difference like you mentioned. Thanks for the input. I will post what I I find out.

that sounds like a transmission problem. do you notice it squealing before it shifts into 5th gear? because if it's something with 5th gear then turning off overdrive would probably hide it.
