Southern Style Offroad Full Length Roof Rack

It just so happens I installed my ARB 2500x2500 awning yesterday, all set for camping season! Also got the deluxe room, both appear to be excellent quality and easy install. I've attached some pics to illustrate how it looks installed. If you don't want it hanging over the front, get the smaller awning.

Thanks for the Awning photos, I need to research these and see what I want.
Soooo torn on getting one your size and it hanging over, or getting one to fit the rack.
That also really depends on if I am going to just leave it on there, or just put it on when I am actually going camping.
If I leave it on, not sure I can stand it sticking out.
Is there any way that it could be mounted a bit lower? so its closer to the level of the rack?
I assume that would require some custom bent brackets.

These are the brackets I used (three of them, they come in packs of two), I'm thinking you could just turn them over:

Of course, this strongly implies the Sunseeker awing will work too!
Looking at this Batwing awnings will work too. Batwing brackets will mount up or down and will work with the SSO rack.

Nice, although at basically the same price, I would trust ARBs quality over the Rhino one. (the awnings)
Though the new Rhino 270 batwing has some really cool features, seems really well thought out.
But, dont think any 270 awning will work on a 4R, the gate would interfere with it too much, especially if you have a ladder.
Can someone who owns the rack tell me if they’d feel comfortable standing on the middle of one of the cross beams?
I recently emailed SSO and their response is that standing on the crossbars would be no problem, but I’m not sure how comfortable I am with putting 200 lbs in 1 spot. Yea, the load capacity is much larger than the weight of a person, but placing that load in 1 small area in the middle of a beam?

Sorry dont have the rack, yet, still waiting grrrr.
But, I have seen a pic or vid they put out of TWO people standing on the 3" bar, and it came right back to straight, and that was with it just laying on blacks, not bolted into the rack.
I am betting you would be fine walking and standing on the rack.

I would be comfortable jumping up and down on the crossbars. You're not gonna bend these. I've walked on mine dozens of times with no issue.
Was planning to order a rack today. Was wondering if the silver rack is clear anodized? Or is it just raw aluminum? If its raw i will buy the black anodized.
And also did the shipping calculator work for anyone? Or is it stuck on $175 flat rate? Seems pretty high for shipping when they are shipping front bumpers for $49 and other companies are charges half or less for real shipping cost.

Ended up just ordering mine. I called them and they said that the shipping is flat rate and high because it is charged as an oversized package.
I ordered mine with no light bar cutout because many people complain of hood glare with roof mounted light bars. I opted for the black anodized cross bars since my 4runner is black. I was also not sure the if the silver cross bars were anodized or not. When i called, the girl that answered the phone says they are cleared, but on their website it says “raw aluminum finish”. For the price i played it safe and it should also look better.
I will probably throw some s2 area lights in it later But its not a priority.

The default crossbars are all anodized clear. Here is a supplier that sells such crossbars (I think 47" in length, check a few other posts on previous pages) and accessories (t-nuts, angle brackets, etc). Very useful to purchase various fasteners for the rails.

Ya.. Keep in mind that SSO crossbars and hardware are 1/4-20 - so order uniform hardware for any other supplemental fasteners you need for your rack.
Sadly, when my rack was delivered, the crossbar supplier to SSO messed up their shipment so I received M6x1.0 tapped crossbars after I had ordered some 1/4-20 t-nuts... So now I've got a mix of 1/4-20 and M6x1.0 drop-in t-nuts in the crossbars
. Not the end of the world, but definitely more confusion than I need to keep track of. :hurt:
