Southern Style Offroad Full Length Roof Rack

Hmm, really? The side handles of my Plano Sportsmans pop out pretty easily.

I meant the those two bits sticking out on the ends:

Any one know what size eye bolts are used? I'd like to source a few without paying $10 a pop for them.

Also, I'm starting to think my rack isn't going to be here in time for my OBX trip (13 weeks from the date of order). It's been at the grinding station for almost 3 weeks now...

Being at the grinding station probably doesn't necessarily mean it's being actively worked on at the moment. There's probably a queue.

I ordered mine on April 22nd, so I'm on week 8. I don't need the rack for 11 more weeks though, so I'm thinking I'm good.

These are the eyebolts I ordered from Grainger. You will need some flat washers and may want to also use lock washers. You'll also need extra t-nuts.

I've got some photos of my setup here. Note that tightening down the eyebolts will slightly marr surface of extruded aluminum bars. I've had no issues with this setup.

Still no rack. Still no tracking number. I'm getting close to pulling the rip cord and bailing out of this purchase. Surely there's a more worthy company out there to give my money to.

Be aware of the cancelation policy.... I believe there is a 20% restocking fee....

In this situation I'm fairly certain any of the better cc companies would side with the consumer and issue a chargeback if they refused a 100% refund. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, though. I'd still rather have the rack, but my patience and understanding tank is on fumes.

i almost did the same thing and then they mentioned the 20% restock. For a high demand product, i cant fathom why they would charge $200+ to cancel when they damn well know someone else will come along and buy the product. FWIW, the restock policy is clear as day on the product's page. They also arent the only ones that charge a 20% restock fee.

My rack has been sitting at the "grinding station" for 2.5 weeks now....must need a lot of grinding...................:noidea:

:lmao:

It's hilarious how quickly a group of people will turn on a company.

Happened to Gobi, happened to Prinsu, and now I guess it's SSO's turn.

And all because they didn't deliver the rack within the ESTIMATED delivery time.

Hey, I have an idea.......rather than ordering your racks exactly 12 weeks before your big trip, why don't you order them a bit earlier so as to give them a small grace period. That way you don't get all butthurt that it wasn't delivered on time and you still get to put it on before your trip.

Also, stop with the "my hard earned money" line. It's played out. Everyone's money around here is hard earned. You're not special.

You're always going to get reactions like this when you charge 100% up front. That's the main issue. Charge a deposit with the balance due at shipping and you'll see customers chill out a lot. Like someone else said, these companies have zero incentive to deliver a quality product in a timely manner when they already have your money. People get grouchy when they put out significant sums of cash and don't get their product - especially when it's not uncommon for these companies to suddenly go under without warning and stiff everyone waiting.

I ordered a Dometic fridge from REI at a significant savings during anniversary sale. It's backordered. I was hoping to have it by now, but it isn't happening. I don't really care, though. In the end it'll get here when it gets here and I'll be happy to have it. Know why I'm so laid back about it? Because REI hasn't charged me for it. They won't take my money until they have a product to send me. When they're ready to ship it they'll charge my credit card, I'll get my fridge, and we'll all be happy.

The real head scratcher is most of these folks are still within the estimated timeframe.

Like dude you were told before you clicked the button...

Maybe they should advertise realistic lead times to alleviate groups of people turning on them.

They had a spring sale last year so I'd wait for that, downside is shipping times were affected - due to the popularity I imagine.

I ordered too early and missed the sale but still got caught up in the backlog due to the sale so my roof rack didn't arrive in time for the camping season.

That said, all set to go now, def worth the wait !

As I foreshadowed on April 2nd...

But it is worth the wait. I was frustrated too this time last year and beyond but now I'm a happy camper. Its a great quality product.

LoL. This thread is funny from start to finish. The company already admitted that it had issues with it's shipping department getting products out. The company addressed that the employee was affecting products being shipped out and you still have people complaining about lead times and shipment issues. If the company had said nothing, you'd still have people complaining I guess but I wonder to what degree. Here you are having a company admit fault and fixing it's issue but in the day of NOW people expecting things to be fixed NOW, which let's be honest, is unrealistic. If SSO had to hire someone to replace their failing shipping manager one could assume there is a training process, etc, etc. Then you have people complaining about paying for a made to order product? Is this your first time adulting I'm confused? I'm just trying to get my 15 post in but this audience is laughable.

Again... I have nothing to gain by posting this...

But you WILL regret that.

Yeah. You might wait longer than you wanted. It might be past the date. You might be out money for a while before you get the product.

But in the end you will get a quality product that (likely?) was exactly what you wanted when you hit the order button.

Or cancel and try to get another similar product. You’ll wait just as long: or you will end up with something that is sub-par.

No one likes waiting. It sucks. It isn’t fun. It makes us mad. But as the saying goes “good things come to those whom wait.”

It’s your money and your choice. But I would trust you made the right decision. Most of us that received the rack feel that we did too.

I second this.

Agreed 100%. I didn't care for the wait as I was in no rush and knew the lead times and once the rack came in and got installed I was all giddy just like when I placed the order.

I think most reasonable people are okay with waiting advertised delivery time on items for the products they want, and even longer for valid reasons. What makes me antsy is when I contact a seller and get back less than stellar communication. I personally have never had that problem with SSO. In fact I have always gotten prompt responses from them, even instantaneous during business hours. I’ll say this again one more time.... Kevin and the staff there at SSO are enthusiast just like us. They want nothing more than to provide solid, good looking, and functional products. They have always gone out of their way to keep me as a happy customer, and I cannot really imagine them treating any other reasonable customer any differently.
