Space is different from L & R wheel to body

Hey everyone,

So i found a similar thread in the 4th gen forums but haven't seen any specific threads in the 5th get section. I've got a 2015 Trail w/ KDSS and a 5100/Toytec Lift with SPC UCAs. I just recently purchased new tires (285/70/17s) and when i took it in to get aligned (and to increase the Caster as much as possible), the passenger side wheel is so close it rubs on the body mount at 80% full lock and the driver side clears perfectly (with about 1.5" of clearance).

I'm wondering if there's anything about the attached alignment specs that i should specifically have them look at when i take it back it in?

Thanks!

In some cases, you will have a difference from L to R - the distance from the back of the tire to the front of the wheel well (or however you want to measure it). My passenger side rubs slightly in reverse and my driver side does not. But... 1.5" inches seems a bit extreme. I will have to measure the difference on mine to see.

Edit: My UCA's are not adjustable.

What UCAs do you have... You don't say, but doubt you got 4* caster with stock ones. If they are adjustable... that is your answer. Need to get the lower LCA more forward and the upper (UCA) less aft. If they are not adjustable, nothing can really be done to get the wheel more forward except more caster.

If you did get 4* on the report with stock UCAs and 3" lift... the machine is not reading correctly.

He says he has SPC UCA’s which are adjustable.

I'm not sure how to check that off the top of my head or is that something a tech will have to do for me?

The Light Racing or SPC upper control arms have a ball joint that has multiple positions that it can be installed in. If it is not in the same position on both sides the tires will be significantly different in their location to get the same alignment. I don't know how they come out of the box. I think you should be able to look at both sides visually and identify if they are installed the same way. If you take a picture of the upper control arm ball joint on both sides we can probably tell you if you can't identify the difference. Just take a good picture of the top and bottom of each side.

Oh, missed that...

So yea make sure both UCAs are at the 0 caster position. Then max out caster with cam tabs. then the camber can be set with those UCAs. Should be easy to get the desired clearance with 285s....

Thanks for all of the direction so far. I'm going to get some pictures of everything soon and post them on this thread. I'll keep everyone updated with what i find out.

I decided to take the 4Runner back to the shop because there was nothing i could visually see difference between the two sides (besides the obvious difference in space), so once they finish up, i'll update everyone.

Thanks again for all of the help!

So the shop fixed the caster (as best as they could) and now I'm just fighting this rubbing issue with 285/70/17's. I'm going for the BMC next and hopefully that fixes the issues.

Thanks for everyone's help!
