Spacer lift and UCAs or Coil overs?

Hey guys, so I've been doing my research hoping not to have to post a thread (in case it's already been covered) but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I have a 2004 4runner limited 4wd (w/o XREAS) and I'm looking at suspension lifts.
I've ordered the 5th gen 20" limited wheels and would ideally like to run 275/60r20 Duratracs. I'd like to keep my suspension setup under $1,000 (for the time being) and I'm not sure which setup would be better: Toytec 3" lift w/ bilstein 5100 front coilovers 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner at 2.5-3" in the front and running stock UCAs... or the Revtek 3/2.5" Rear Split Spacer System (Kit 431) Revtek Kit 431 | and Light Racing UCAs.
Any help would be appreciated!

if i was you id skip the spacer lift, cause if you do install it, you'll end up swapping it out for a suspension lift anyway, we all do. the toytec is a good kit, lot of members on here using it

I would also go with the toytec lift vs. the spacer lift.

As well, save your money on the LR UCA's and put that money towards a better set of upper control arms. I've had my LR UCA's replaced three times now under warranty within 20k miles. go with the uniball style like icon, camburg or total chaos.

Thanks for the response guys, I guess my only worry with the coilovers and reaching close to 3" of lift is alignment. I guess I'll run it at 2.5 until I can afford the UCAs and hope the 275/60r20 fits with 1.25" spacers

Yeah, I did the spacer lift thing for about a year, then upgraded to Toytec Ultimate. The thing with the spacer lift is that my stock coils were sagging (97k miles at that time) and I did not get the amount of lift that I was looking for. BTW, you will not need UCA's for the spacer kit. Regardless, I totally understand your concern regarding the added cost of the UCA's (on top of the Toytec kit) as you want to try to keep your caster in spec. You can play around with the coil over settings to get a height that 1) keeps your caster within a reasonable setting and 2) does not give you too much rake from back to front. Are you going to install the lift yourself?

Yeah I plan on doing the lift myself with a tech-savvy buddy of mine. The toytec coil over installation seems simple enough but I'm having trouble distinguishing the difference between two Toytec coilovers: the TTAFCS-HA-0309 , and the TK-4 (non-assembled) as they both have the Bilstein 5100 adjustable front shocks and front coils. Any idea on the price difference? Here's the link for the two:

OK, here is the difference:

The coil-overs with the red coils have a threaded coil lift adjuster that simply requires being turned with the Toytec supplied spanner:

The silver coil-overs that you referenced use a "C" clip to adjust the strut, which is, apparently, more difficult.

I also say go with the Toytec lift. That's coming from someone who will install that or an OME lift as soon as I trade to a slightly newer 4th gen 4Runner or GX470. The spacer lift has given me the lift I wanted, but it has done nothing beneficial for the ride quality on or off road.

Also, with these ^ you can replace the shock in the strut assembly if/when it fails or wears out. If I'm not mistaken the other option mentioned is rebuild-able if it should fail or wear out.

I'm surprised nobody asked, but what kind of use will you be putting your 4runner through? If it is a street only setup then although the spacer lift won't improve the ride, it isn't really worth it to spend all that money on coilovers. If you are going to wheel it by all means the coilover is far superior, but why 20" wheels?? They aren't the greatest for offroading, especially if you get into rocks. They ride rougher, less sidewall to flex and absorb bumps and such as well as higher risk of hitting a rim and bending it. I always say, 20's are for the street, or REALLY big tires like 40" and above! I am thinking of downgrading from my sport brakes so that I can run 16's instead of the 17's that came on it so I have more sidewall.

T-man: It's going to be on the road 90% of the time, though I plan on taking it to the beach, mudding, light/moderate trails (after UCAs). I had a Tuff Country 3/2" spacer lift on my 2007 Tacoma and didn't like the ride especially how the rear end swayed. And I know 20" wheels aren't ideal for offroad but I'm not too worried about scratching them and doubt I'd put myself in the position to bend them (at least I hope lol). I had 20" wheels on my Tacoma and really liked the look of them with aggressive tires.

That's cool man, I'd rather do coilovers any day to! Tacoma looked sweet, can't wait to see your runner! Have fun
